I just received a multi-disc reflector as a gift. Can someone explain how to use it, expecially with close-up photography?

Thanks so much ahead of time. It is a 22 inch Photoflex collapsible with gold, soft gold, silver, white and translucent sides. I did not receive the disc holder so it will have to be hand held. I really appreciate all the help you can give because I am very uncertain how to use it. Thanks
