New to digital photography.

I am about to purchase my my first digital camera! I would like some reccomendations as to which specification camera to buy. I will be using the camera primarily for general use, indoor photo's etc. I would also like to use the camera for photographing motorsport events. If anyone could recommend a specification it would be appreciated. Also could someone enlighten me about batteries, I'd like to use rechargable batteries, is there an easy way to find out if any given camera will take rechargables?

How much do you want to spend? Price pretty much dictates what quality of camera you'll be purchasing.

Unless you can get very close to the motor sport action, then I would say a 'compact' is not ideal.

You would be looking for a D30, with a suitable Telephoto Lens, which is far from a cheap option!
