I'm looking for an InfraRed filter for my G1 to take see-throught clothes pictures.
Is the Hoya R72 (720nm) good enough ?
Thanks

I use a Hoya R72 with my G1 (see my IR Gallery for examples), and I have never been able to see through clothes. Perhaps this is a good thing.

I use the same filter and have never seen through anything. IR filters only see IR. Everything, clothes included, reflect IR. You will get some great special effects but no thermal imaging.
Thermal imaging, on the other hand, "sees" only heat. I tested a thermal imaging device for my fire department and, if it emits (not absorbs) heat, it shows. We could use it to find warm bodies in a room so full of smoke the human eye can't see anything. Only $13,000 on a special deal for fire departments. Not practical for the novice.
Don't believe everything you hear on dpreview about IR. The guy who wrote about a summer project in the mall and how silk really passes IR is full of crap. IR is IR. Thermal is heat. Apples to oranges.
P.S. Most ladies don't want you to see it anyway. If they did, they'd show it to you. All you need to do is guess which ones they are and ask. Good luck:D

Given the original post was over 10 years ago, they've probably caught him already...or, he got a job with the TSA...

Actually, not entirely crap. I have a G3 modified for IR and soon found that in summer I should avoid taking shots of women (who don't look good on IR anyway) wearing very lightweight gauzy-looking summer dresses.
Legs and underwear do sometimes show through to some extent and it's definitely not flattering to them. And no, I have no intention of posting examples.
The exact results would vary with the IR filter that is built into the modified camera after the standard IR filter is removed.

Ya know, you can't argue with that!
