Product photography has been a weird subject to me for a while now, but yesterday I took the first babysteps and started this little project. I bought a loundry basket with three lamps from Ikea and made my own light tent. I tested it quickly and the results surprised me. The couple of pictures actually looks pretty good.

And here is the couple of test pics (lets hope, that the linking works):

If the pictures dosent work:

Sorry, that site is only finnish for now. But i'll hope that the pictures speak for themselves

And here is few pictures of the setup:

The shooting was done like in 15 minutes, so the setup it looks kinda awful.

But just to remind you, this is a "beta version"!

For shooting, i used Canon 7D and 70-200 f/L USM.

Next in my to-do list is:

- new lightbulbs with more natural colour so i can use flash in the pictures (now they are too yellow)
- openable roof (velcro for the closing mechanism?)
- more solid and straight walls (tighten with cable ties)
- better floor surface (halfway done, i'm getting this clear white plate from work)

Can't wait to test the "beta version 2"

I know that the homemade Ikea light tents are a old thing, but what do you think?

wow your resulting photos look really nice, especially after seeing how simple of a setup you have there. Nice work. How much time did you have to spend in editing to get the pure white background?

Not long. When I took the pictures, my main goal was to make really pure white for the background to make the post processing as easy as possible. First I imported the pics to Lightroom and made my normal adjustments. Then I opened the pics in Photoshop, where I used a dodge brush for the corner in background and added a bit of sharpening. I was done with post-processing in just a 7-10 minutes. Not sure how long it went, because i was chatting with my gf at the same time

Umm... I really don't see the point that you are making? Why did you post those pictures on my thread, where I'm telling on my light tent project? ???

nice details on your shots there.
you'd get some nice reflections using plexiglass.

well, i'm just trying to explain to you that you can obtain nice pictures even without a tent, like i do.

Thank you.
Plexiglass is cheap and its amazing what can do.
on a black cardboard or white card board like here

for the lights i am using some Westcott softboxes

you don't have reflections in your shots do you?

why get your panties in a twist because someone posted a couple of his own shots to share?

I'm not a moderator, but i think the issue here is a clear - web induced confusion. But either way - Sturo you didn't start the thread and it wasn't a "Let all post our product shots" type of thing. There is such a communal thread running I believe. Anyway...

Thanks for sharing the ikea light tent idea, I like it!
Do you find the fabric to give off any significant color cast that you have to compensate for or is it pretty neutral? Are you shooting a gray card first for custom white balance or just setting it to your lights?

Very good results.
What sort of light bulbs did you use?
