Canon CF Card Problem

My second problem which occured around the same time as the first (see below) involves the card that Canon supply with the Ixus V. The card reader fails to recoginse the card, the camera gives me the 'No Image' message on the screen, yet when I want to take photos, I get the message on the camera 'CF Card Full' - which it is with 8 images that I would like to retrieve (if all is not lost)
