Im getting a new system with Windows XP on it. Will the G1 drivers and software work with this operating system?
Dose anyone have this setup and dose it work properly?
Will XP read the camera files via the USB cable?
Thanks.

I have been using the G1 and XP together without a complaint ... very seamless. I don't use DoomBrowser, or any of the canon software (aside from drivers), however, as Explorer will let you view, rotate, etc... the pictures on the camera. Give me a holler if you want me to try anything more specific.

Bill: it won't read raw files, will it?

Well ... that is a hard question to answer, as I am not sure what you are asking. Therefore, I will try to hit enough points to answer the question with brute force.
I am referring to the WIA drivers here (not at all a fan of TWAIN). You can view contents of your G1 as thumbnails ... RAW files will show up fine. However (as with movies) you can not just double click to open these up (as you can with jpg). Instead, you have to copy them and paste them into photoshop or something. I have done no tests on what is lost by doing this, but I can if you would like.
I rarely shoot with RAW, because of speed and bother. I am not a good enough photographer for it to make a difference, anyway. Hopefully that will change with time.

What driver are you guys using with Windows XP?
My G1 is not being detected. At first I got a message saying that the driver is not supported by XP and therefor may not work right. So I canceled. Anyone ignore the message and go with the install anyway, is it working ok?
Help Please

I have been using the WIA380. Yes ... I ignored the warning ... all the warning means is that the driver does not have a digital signiture, or that the signiture is older than the XP release date. This is USUALLY the case, unless the driver is provided by Microsoft.
You don't have to be as picky with drivers in XP as you had to be in 98 and even 2K. I have installed bad drivers, and it just failed ... there is also some good functionality for rolling back. I am about as hard on software as one can be ... crashed 2K within the first week I started using it. I have only crashed XP once, though, and it was a thread-pooling issue. It really IS a better operating sytem, guys.
As I have stated before, I have had no issues at all with XP and my G1. You will have to link the non-standard extensions (RAW, movies) to a program, but everything should work fine after that.
** Just a note ... Make sure you understand how difficult it will be to ever reformat your machine before you get involved with XP. Hopefully, if stuff like this review (http://news.cnet.com/news/0-1003-201-7532682-0.html?tag=owv) keeps getting published, M$ will realize they are in a dream world.

Canon now has a driver for G1 and Windows XP compatibility.
