Could someone explain how I can obtain effects similar to these using PS... www.nickbrandt.com ? I just love the old style look to these pictures.

Just beautiful.

Have a dream and follow it –*with passion.

...and talent.

For the most part, those just look like B&W images with a bit of a sepia applied.

Create a saturation adjustment layer and drop the saturation right off to make it B&W.
=OR= create a channel mixer adjustment layer, check off mono and play with the sliders.
=OR= use another approach to convert to a B&W image.

Then add a new layer on top. Pick a nice sepia (browny orange) colour and press ALT+Backspace to fill the new layer with the colour.
From the drop down box above, change the blend mode from Normal to Colour.

You might also want to play with contrast. Check out Martin's thread for localized contrast (use the USM tool with a larger radius than amount (20 amount 50 radius as an example) to really boost the contrast. Be careful of the edges... you might want to select and feather portions of your image first... or use layer masks to reduce the haloing.

You can also play with a curves adjustment layer (without changing the curve) and change the blend mode from Normal to Soft Light or Overlay. That'll add a nice subtle contrast boost... similar to a slight S curve.

Play with the opacity of your adjustment and colour layers.
