View Full Version : Mantis head at F22

I was able to get enough light from my flash at F22 using a white sheet of paper that I placed at 2 inches from the mantis.
The magnification ratio was approx 1:1 and F22 helped to get enough dof for
the mantis head.
Hope you'll like it.

Thanks all for the kind comments.
For who asked, I used the canon 50mm 1.8 lens and Kenko extension tubes.
I also post processed ( sharpening with photoshop and filtered with neatimage).

I used the canon 50mm 1.8 lens and Kenko extension tubes.
I am amazed by the DOF and detail from this shot, I am even more amazed this was taken with a 50mm with tubes...
I have the 100mm f/2.8 Macro and havent produced anything like this before..
Very well done...;)

Thanks again for those who appreciated my macro of the mantis head.
My setup is very simple as demonstrated by the attached picture.
I was shooting ants on a steel wire.
This is not a very pretty setup, but the white sheet of paper helps to get more light on the subject.
Just writing this I am thinking that of small white umbrella should work very well, the only problem beeing not to scare the insect when setting the umbrella :)
