Okay.... So we all know that copying the RAW files out of our D30/D60/10Ds is a slow and tedious process. The solution is here! I used to average 30-45 minutes (on a good day) to copy a full 1Gig Microdrive using my 10D's built in USB. With the Lexar Firewire CF card reader, I copied the same full card in under 5 minutes!!!
If you have a Firewire port (IEEE-1394) then you have no reason not to invest in this awesome device! You'll thank me, you might even want to name your kids after me, it's that good!
On my Mac running OS 10.2, it was instantly recognized as a removable drive, no software needed. It comes with a driver disk for mac OS 9 and various Windoze systems (their web site has info on which ones work for you PC guys.).

check it out here: http://www.lexarmedia.com/readers/firewire.html

Oh and did I mention that is it this really cool purple color? Because I think that is about half of the reason it is so awesome.

Buy it! Buy it! Buy it!

I paid full bang for mine. $59.00 but it was worth every cent. I have seen them online for around $35-$80 but I wanted it that day so I paid the extra cash.

Purchased mine from ebay and it arrived from Germany today. I just can't believe that I've wasted so much time in the past with a normal CF reader. Can't think of a use for that anymore ;0)

Hmmmmm ... I am a firewire user (FireNet, external firewire DVD writer, external 100 gb firewire hd), but why pay twice the price?

6in1-USB2-reader are faster (speed never usable with CF), needs no driver ... but has no purple color :-(

Creditcardsized or smaller.

Hi Card Reader fans,

I was really disappointed with the Lexar Reader. There was no Info on the homepage of Lexar Media about compatibility. So I ordered one and tried it out.
It never worked!! Not with Win98SE not with XP.

Sending it back to Cyberlink (seller) they told me a test was positive, that means no Harware damage.
Is there any trick to get it work? It never showed any light inside. Lexar Media wrote that it is only compatible with 3 Fire Wire Cards. Is Fire Wire not a single standard?

I own a fire wire card from Terratec Cameo 400.

Thanks for help

Bernd

USB2 is not firewire! It takes me 15 minutes to copy the files from a 512M CF card using a USB 2 flash card reader. Better than USB 1 to be sure, but I expected more.

Remember:

USB2 = 480 Mb, but there are 3 transfer modes:

Slow Speed = 1.5 Mb (mouse etc.)
Full speed = 12 Mb
High Speed = 480 Mb

I think, NO memory card is for Hi-Speed!

Firewire (IEEE-1394a) knows S100, S200, S400 with 100/200/400 Mb, new firewire (IEEE-1394b) also S800

My Lexar firewire reader was plug-n-play with XP. Was uploading pics to the PC in seconds. Has not skipped a beat in the 6 months that I have had it.
