I have been searching but just can't find any good info on this lens, for Canon crop Bodies.

I am new to the game, trying to stay on the cheap, can't be helped.

I am wanting a cheap yet decent zoom lens to do short range outdoor wildlife, and some
close up people shots.

I have almost surely decided on the canon 55-250 efs IS, based on several recommendations, but seeing that the Sigma 55-200 DC OS HSM is going for $159 with free shipping on amazon, and buy.com both, I am sorely tempted to save myself $150. Is there something wrong with this lens that i can find so few examples of it's work online? Pixel peepers has nothing and even flikr has only a few dozen shots.

a bit confused

Is there anyone here who can give me a positive report on this?

OR should I just find myself a nice used 55-250 IS and go from there.

In the meantime, I believe you'll find the sticky in this subforum titled "Main Thread with Links" very handy - diggingthrough it will garner this link regarding your sigma: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=341155

EDIT : Disregard that, that is not the HSM version. =\
