View Full Version : S2 super macro - how to?

I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to turn on the super macro mode on my new S2. The manual says to "Repeatedly press the [flower] button...". They don't define "repeatedly", but the only thing that happens when I press the [flower] button is that the macro mode gets turned on and off. I never see the "Super Macro" mode appear. I tried to press the button "repeatedly" as fast as I could, but that didn't work either.

Is there something I'm missing here? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Pat

Press and hold the macro button and it'll change to the flower icon with an S on it.

I wonder if ours and your camera are set up differently. Just like when the OP does it, when I do what you suggested, the camera just flips back and forth in and out of macro mode. I actually have to hold the macro button for a second to make it switch to SuperMacro mode.

When you press the macro button the second time (to activate the super macro), make sure you hold it down for a count of three or so.

Thanks for the help everyone. I found that just pressing & holding will start the super macro mode. No need to press more than once.

Thanks,

I still can't get the super macro to work . Does it need to be on a certain setting? I am sooo frustrated! I've tried all your suggestions & can't get the s to show up. Appreciate it if anyone can talk me through it. Thanks!

Rosewomann...
It works in the Creative Zone (P, Av, Tv, M) and in My Colors and Movie mode in the Image Zone.
When in one of these modes, press and hold the Macro button for about 2 secs. You will see the Flower icon with "S" in it at the top of the LCD or EVF.

Does it need to be on a certain setting?

Yes. It doesn't work in the Auto setting, though it does in most of the others. Check the chart on the last page of your manual to see what modes it works in. I usually shoot in P mode just because it allows virtually all the adjustments and features, yet retains some of the auto settings at the same time.

And as others have posted above, press and hold the macro button until it goes into Super Macro.

Thank you both SOOO much! I don't normally become frustrated by much, but I was convinced I had broken the button by repeatedly pushing it. Turned it to P & it worked the first time! What did we do before the internet? I love this camera but was kind of confused about that one feature. I must say it is a feature loaded camera & it will take me a while to "get it" all. For a while I was pushing the M button because I couldn't get the flower to come on. At least I learned a bit about manual focus: the camera does better than me, lol!
Now to take some super macros! I am grateful for the quick response.
