There were lots of these modern-day pterodactyls around this weekend while I was down the shore. Finally I got some pictures in good lighting of them. I was pretty happy with this one. Awesome birds they are. Was watching them plunge in the ocean all weekend, eating fish and flying from the ocean to the bay and vice versa. Some were right overhead. Edit: The first shot is an immature (lots of white underneath and fully brown head) and the second is an adult.

Another shot. I wish the wing wasn't cut off, but I had little time to set up. Snuck right up on me! I have a cropped version of this just to show feather and face detail, but it won't fit on this forum, even sized right for some reason so it will show up on my photo site.

Remember Jurassic Park when they showed the Pelicans at the end of the movie flying by? And in part 3 they showed the pterodactyls flying by at the end? They looked remarkably similar! I always thought Herons were pterodactyl-like, but pelicans take the cake.
