i was told that the sigma 70-300, f4-5.6 macro is a lens worth getting.
anyone has experiences with it?

Define "worth". What will you be using it for mainly, what sort of lighting, etc. That said, it's quite a good lens for "only" $200. Be sure to get the "APO DG" model if you do.

i dont really have any specific thing that i shoot for now, but i'll probably be using it mostly for outdoor.
whats the difference between the APO version & the APO DG?
besides price, i was also wondering if the lens is sharp and would get good colours... etc.
anyone here owns the lens? :)

Its a great lens if you're on a confined budget. I have a version (see my sig) and it was cheap ($ 175) or so, and allows me to take shots I couldn't get with either the kit lens of the nifty fifty. I intend to upgrade it when I can afford to do so.

thanks for the replies!
i think i'm most probably getting the lens now. haha
a couple of questions though, is there any difference between the DG and the non DG version? i read that the DG version is 'enhanced' for digital cameras, but is there really a difference?
i also noticed that there is a DG version with APO and without APO.. whats the difference between all? i'm confused! ???

the APO DG version is the latest, it is a digital lens, the previous Super II APO is also a great lens but can be used on film and digital cameras. I'm not sure how they measure up but from what i've heard they are similar.

the DG is a digital lens, but it can be used on both a digital & film camera right?
i'm kind of weary of getting lenses if they can only be used for digital cameras

--> seems to say that it can be used for both digital & film cameras

Sigma's "DG" designation does NOT mean "only for digital"; they use the "DC" for "digital only/sub full-frame". In short, ANY "DG" lens will work on full frame or sub-FF. But the 70-300 APO DG is the one you want if you want this lens.

All the photos I've posted on this forum have been taken with this lens (but not the DG version). I have been very satisfied with the results of this lens. My friend actually GAVE it to me thinking it was some useless cheap lens (well, cheap it is!!). I bet he wishes he kept it now...
