Polevaulting....... into a stop sign?

First attempt at this sort of thing, so bare with me.
I had a bit of spare time at work so I whipped this up in photoshop. Is it possible to do this with my camera (without photoshop)?

My guess is yes as I've seen some samples from strobo photography or something like that where long exposures are of the norm and either intermittent lighting or a spinning thingamagic that only lets the camera see every time the hole in the spinning thingy goes through. I'm confusing myself here O_O
