I just came across a link for a lcd shade made by Hoodman.
It looks fantastic! Just wondering if anyone has tried the Hoodman, and what your thoughts are.
ALso, do you know if you have to use the permanently attached velcro strips? Or is the wrap around strap enough (I would rather not place any permanent velcro on my G3).
Thanks alot!

I've used the Hoodman 200 for a while now and find that it helps quite a bit. I just strap it around the LCD. If you attach the velcro strips you may not be able to close the LCD door properly.

I like it. Just need some practice to strap and unstrap it. Once it becomes a habit, it's automatic, takes a little more time than put on and off the lens cap.

Another option may be the Kenko Digital Window DW-46, which I just stumbled across at 2filter.com. Here is the link:

I don't know how good it is and it's difficult to work out from the photos how it attaches. It has a 5x magnifier, which can be flipped out of the way. They recommend the magnifier glass not be exposed to direct sunlight, but give no reason.

Interesting.
As a kid do you ever remember using a magnifying glass to burn paper and ants?
Well, that is probably the reason for the warning (substitute your lcd for the paper and ants)...
:)

Yeah, your probably right.
Burning ants you say. Hmmm, probably smells a bit.
Just a wild guess of course.

I think I may experiment a bit and make one out of neoprene.

I am trying to work out something with a slide viewer I had. I took the opaque back off and the black plastic with a magnifier glass just fits the size of the lcd. I haven't worked out how to hook it on yet.

I also use an old plastic slide viewer. I attach it with a thin piece of gaffer tape over the top of the viewer and onto the G3's top LCD. This allows me to flip the viewer up and out of the way when necessary. Works fine but the hard plastic slide viewer cannot be folded up for storage like the Screen-Shade (I don't think the Hoodman folds up.)

I found a new devise in PC mag article.
MFG OmegaSatter, name Digfinder, it list for $39.00 and sells at Adorama for $34.95.
It can be viewed with both eyes or as a slr type eye piece.
I have the hoodman and it works but still gets refections once in a while.
