Anyone use capture during formals for a wedding? I'm shooting a wedding this Saturday and I'm contemplating trying it. I've been playing with capture this week and so far so good....I'm impressed how the images go to the hard drive and especially that I can look at what I'm doing. I'm looking for advice cause I don't want disaster to strike at the wrong time. Thanks

Is EOS capture the one where you plug your camera into a PC and have it control the camera? I've never tried it, but if that's what it does it doesn't sound overly useful for weddings to me. Give it a go if you like, especially if you have an assistant who can do it for you.

The way I define it is the image displays on the PC monitor and is saved on the PC hard drive instead of the cf card. Camera and computer are connected by a cord. I dont know if it controls the camera but I suppose it could (havent tried that maybe today). I normally just shoot using the card and then dumping the images between events but I'm thinking this might be easier, but then again I dont really know thats why I ask.

Would you really want to be dragging a laptop around on a shoot? I doubt it.
I backup everything to Laptop (soon to get a P2000 or something) to make sure, but capturing directly to PC? Sounds like a pain in the backside.
Would you carry studio flash gear around on your shoulders? I think not...
But hey, whatever works for you!

For weddings, speed is important because you don't want to miss the shot. Personally, I would rather get several CF cards instead. I personally use several CF card and a portable storage drive.
I am however looking into another form of image transfer technology similar to the one you described except wireless. In weddings that I do, I generally go in a group and we are looking for someone to do post processing on the spot. What I am looking into and couldn't find anything cheap $$$ is the controller card.
You can purchase a wireless CF card that goes into the camera. (You will need to modify the door because it doesn't close properly because the card sticks out too much.), on the receiver end, it just plugs into the USB port. I haven't experimented using Multiple cameras transfer but I think it should handle it. The operator on the computer would instantly do the sorting and deleting if necessary. Whenever there's time, the person would do touchups, etc.

I use the supplied Canon remote capture when I am doing macro work, Not much action there and instant large review of photo. But I would never think of using it at a wedding unless you set up a booth of some sort and people come in and you can take a picture in a static environment. IMOH!!

Formals are static. Would not think of it during ceremony or reception.

Even if the weather was so bad that you ended up taking all the photos in 1 place in front of curtains in doors I think the Bride and Groom would be wondering what was going on. You need to be there with them if ur on ur own, now stuck behind a laptop. Only my opinion on it, you never know you might be on the verges of starting a new trend?

Todd,
It sounds like you already plan to do this,..............So let us know what happens and we can learm from you!I think it's a good Idea to shoot "formals only" straight to laptop. I have a laptop and only a 1gig card in my camera. I can shoot the whole wedding in RAW if I were to use a laptop for formals.
Now yeah, if i had more $ I'd buy a few more cards instead!

The wedding went fine and I never bothered with the capture. My wife and I shoot weddings together. She did the posing and organizing and I worked the camera. So the capture would have worked fine. Next time I'll definately try it.
