Low battery warning during download

When I try to download photos from camera to computer I often get an error message saying battery charge is low, replace the battery or incert ac adapter. The battery seems to have enough charge to continue shooting, but not enough to download. Is this normal? I feel like I only use the batteries for a seemingly short period, so they should be able to power the camera during download.

Use a card reader and eliminate problems like that.

This is a so-called safety feature. The battery is probably fine, but since you could lose data if it dies during a download, you get a warning when the voltage starts to drop.

I think you'll find that a card reader is a very useful investment, for this and other reasons of convenience.
