After years and years worth of amusement park experience in California, I noticed that every SINGLE park uses Nikons. Each park will have a handful of photographers scattered around to take pictures of you with cartoon characters, attractions, nice backgrounds etc. I am just wondering if anyone knows why is it that only Nikons are being used. :( I mean, there is nothing wrong with Nikons, but I just find it surprising that Canons are not being used at all.

Many, many law enforcement agencies use Nikons as well. Maybe they offer better prices when large amounts are purchased?

Maybe NIkon just gives a better bundle when it comes to cameras.

I read somewhere that the US Army just bought 5 thousand Canon 5D Mark IIs? Maybe? Maybe not?

Something I've noticed with many new photographers I've talked to in the Bay Area is that Nikon has a reputation as being a "professional" brand, whereas Canon is the "hobby" brand. Obviously we all know this isn't the case, but it's a prevalent mindset I've noticed in people thinking of/just starting out in photography.

I personally started with Canon because I grew up with a Canon Point and Shoot

I do notice at NFL games, most sports photographers use Canon. Ever notice all those "white" telephotos along the side line/end zone.

Pros use what will help them get paid. Canon still has the lead, but more and more shooters are picking up D3 bodies since Nikon has started releasing some insanely good glass, like the 200-400 f/4

and becuase canon is the official sponsor of the NFL.

but for theme parks etc, im sure it has a lot to do with package deals over what the preference is.

I've noticed this too. Beginners tend to think more highly of Nikons.

those same "beginners" would think nothing is weird if someone whipped out a Nikon with a White lens either. I'm sure not everyone upon seeing a white 300mm f/2.8 begins to lust the same way the ones on this forum do.

It's called marketing. Pure and simple

I doubt it's mostly 'beginners' that covet nikon. I've read many threads here praising the d700 and d7000, enough so that I'm now shopping for the d700 myself. I'll keep my canon gear but you know, grass is always greener...

grass is always greener, until I saw this ISO Crops of Canon 70-200 vs Nikon 70-200 link (http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/ISO-12233-Sample-Crops.aspx?Lens=687&Camera=453&Sample=0&FLI=7&API=0&LensComp=621&CameraComp=614&SampleComp=0&FLIComp=7&APIComp=2)

since 70-200 is my preferred lens, i expect them to deliver.
it is true nikon deliver some outstanding lens, but the lens that I actually need, Canon does it better.

and we can adapt Nikon lenses to Canon cameras! yeay

(Nikon 200-400 is amazing, hence the price tag. so does all canon superteles)

IMHO, comparison like that is almost pointless. A slight miss focus can cause world of difference at 24MP. Two different cameras and lenses, unless meticulously adjusted, it's not comparable, espectially a test chart like that.

Not true at all. The local PD uses a D2 or D200 while the local Six Flags uses at least a D80/D90 (Saw the screen on top of the camera).

You do know the comparison you linked to had a extender on both cameras. When you look at both lens at 200mm from that site, they will look really close to identical.

When you're talking about corporate purchases, unless there's a sponsorship arrangement, brand loyalty isn't really an issue. It simply comes down to pricing and which vendor can give you the best deal for both the assets and the maintenance contract. Dell's aren't exactly the best computers but some companies use them because they are well priced and easily replaced.

A friend of mine is looking for a Nikon D7000 and they can't be found. B&H and Adorama are both out of stock and plenty of WTB on the FM site.

Well Canon being the official sponsor doesn't impact what the photographers at the event are using as that is independent of the papers/magazines choosing what gear to use. The official sponsorship just puts canons name all over the NFL for marketing purposes in ads from signage at games to ads in magazines using the NFL's brand.

Not sure if it happens at average NFL games but it wouldn't surprise me if Canon, as a primary sponsor, gets a backstage presence to loan out glass that wire and local media shooters might not have access to yet. I've heard of it happening at the World Cup and Olympics.

It happens in both camps--Nikon took a lot of market share during the MKIII fiasco with loaner kits available to credentialed shooters at major events--and a generous trade in allowance.

I also noticed recently on a Carnival cruise that every single photographer, and there were lots of them, used Nikon. I figured Nikon must have a contract with them.

I have been looking for canon rebels and can't find any. My husband is military so I order a T1i from the Air Force exchange but I am waiting patiently for it. Went to my Wal-mart to buy the T3 bc I really want a camera now, they have it on display but don't know when they will get it in.

Ive heard many people say "Nikon is a possessional Brand" and I tend to Agree Ive used both systems and prefer Nikon's Ergonomics, But Canons Glass (mostly prices). The USAF uses Nikon and and so do Big companies (PD's, Them parks) I would say probably cause of there Bulk prices.

I overheard a salesperson a couple of years ago speaking about how Nikon was more generous with cash than Canon was. Nikon does seem to be the brand to go to when someone is buying in bulk as they're more likely to give a rebate/discount, Canon seems to be more uptight when it comes to where the money from their camera sales go.

I have a friend who used to work in Disneyland as a photog, and they used the Nikon D70s. He said that they shoot at least 1500 shots a day and some of the bodies have at least 800K actuations. They just keep working, and that's probably the reason.

btw, NASA also uses Nikon :p

I thought it was the exact opposite with people's arguments about the media section crowded with white lenses.

Woah. Is that even possible? 800K actuations seems way too much on a single body. Unless they replace the shutter around every 150-200K.

Have them call Service Photo in Baltimore. Last week they had 12. Sorry, make that 11, I bought one. Great people to deal with. 410-235-6200. If they are really interested I would call right away.

Depends on the sponsorship, or the willingness for the company to give the customer a break/deal.

NASA uses Nikon, EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) uses Canon (a major sponsor)....

I think Apple Computer must have a lot of contracts with TV and movie studios. You see their laptops in shows and movies all the time. They're represented in a way higher percentage than they're used in real life.
