I made a failed bid for a Canon D10 with extras
on Ebay but I have received two emails since
offering me similar deals at a cheaper price.
I suspect a scam...anyone?

I wouldn't touch that with rubber gloves. Smells allthe way to here ( US that is ) . It's hard enough wading through all the stuff on ebay. Forget about the ones outside . What recourse do you have if the person just doesn't send you the merchandise?

You can't cheat an honest man. All cons admit some kind of discrepancy . appealing to our own sense of dishonesty.
just a thought

I certainly did...
I can't understand why Ebay have'nt tightened their
security to prevent this.?
Surely emails should be vetted by Ebay before they
allow access to folks addy's.?

There has been this type of scam centered around certian "Hot products" for years now. (Camera,s Camcorders,. plasma screens etc.)
Spain is one of the countries to watch along with many former Soviet block European countries.
My rules of thumb,.
Only buy from the country you are located in.
If it seems to good to be true,.. on Ebay that equals CON!

The best way to try and stop these is to report the email to ebay. If it is too good to be true it proble not.
I always tell these "honest" sellers that if they do not want to use escrow.ca or paypal because it takes to long to get paid or the fees are to high to send me the goods 2 days like they say they will and I will then send them money Western Union.

What am I missing here. As I understand it you failed to close a deal on eBay because you were outbid and someone else tries to sell you a camera.
How can you call this an eBay scam? What if I tried to buy a camera from you and the deal fell through. Someone on the sidelines overheard the transaction and offered me a questionable deal. And I say to the world Fox 1 is a scam artist.
There are dishonest people on eBay - both buyers and sellers. But the guy who tried to scam you was not eBay nor was he on eBay. So please tell me what the deal you described has to do with eBay's poor security policies.

Heh.. Its all how you read it..
Its not E-bay who scams , but an person that uses e-bay to scam people. Thefore it is called E-bay scam. More rightfully it would be.
People-who-uses-ebay-to-scam-people...
The same people (often located in Spain) tries to sell on e-bay, and when you contact them for some questions, answer is always the same... "I have 2 yada yada.. and you can trasfer the money to me via Western Union yada yada.."

If you want to have some fun with a scammer, tell them that you really like the deal and would like to purchase the camera. Next ask them where they are located. Then say, "thats great, I'm flying in there for business and I can pick it up personally." Tell them to give you specific directions for the meeting.....You know what will happen next?........NOTHING because they don't have a camera and they don't want to meet you. I've done this several times and they will not return your email but you've just had some fun and proved that they are scammers....Brian

NO....I made a bid that was beaten by a proxy.
I never failed to close a deal...I take exception to your
'understanding'. :-((

Ebay do seem to take these things seriously. My son got caught in a scam & lost £25, they informed the police & statements were taken, don't know the outcome though.
