I am still looking into buying a laptop. I will eventually transfer the images to a disk of some sort. Any suggestions on burning to dvd's, cd-r, or cd-wr? What are the pros and cons of the different formats?
Thanks.

Hello, I think that a 700mb CD is plenty of space for pictures, and a whole lot cheeper than a DVD-RW drive and media. I wouldn't use CD-RW's because you will most likely want to keep your pics for the long haul. Besides, you can always add pictures to a CD-R if you don't finalize your CD.
As far as DVD, if you do decide to get one, I would recommend that you stick to the DVD+R/DVD+RW format rather than the DVD-R/DVD-RW, mainly because it's newer and faster. If you want best of both worlds, you can purchase DVD+R(W)/DVD-R(W) drive from SONY. As far as I know, the only drive to support +/- formats. Available as an internal or external model.

I agree,. for now CD-R is the way to go. They are dirt cheap,. like under .50 cents each in a pack of 50 or more,. and they can be played in any PC made since 1993!!! When DVD-R gets a lot cheaper and more widspread then it might make sense,. but for now a great CD Burner like a Lite-on costs only about $50.00!
How large are your memory cards? If you use a 512 or smaller you can fit a full card on a CD-R and still have room for more.
