I am looking at buying a lighting kit for use on small [12x12x12] objects. I have looked at the Smith Victor KT750 [2 - 10" reflectors, 1 - 5" reflector, 3 - 250 watt bulbs and 3 - 6' stands] and the KT1000 [2 - 12" reflectors, 2 - 500 watt bulbs and 2 - 6' stands]. Any thoughts on which might work better?

Just a thought on the Smith-Victor. I purchased one of their kits (similar to the one you describe) about 20 years ago and the "Bakelite" type light socket/handle on each one failed (broke) after only a few years. They threaded into the reflectors and that part cracked, as well as the handles separated. Hopefully they have improved this in the decades (!) since.
I, too, am looking for a nice - yet inexpensive - lighting kit for small items.

Barry, My experience in the past work with SV lights for commercial work is pretty much the same. I just use the photo lamps in hardware store clip on work lights these days. Cheaper and it does the same job and money stays in pocket

Home depot can provide materials for some really inexpensive copies of some very expensive things like a seamless light table backdrop, light clamps, piano wire and aligator clips to stabilize small items from behind etc etc.

Thanks for all the feedback. I am making a laminate light box and will just use the clip lights from Home Depot/Lowes.
Thanks, Mike
