Maybe a dumb question, but is there a way in PSCS to build a step into my action that prepares photos for web-display, that will remove the exif?

thanks,

"Save for web" should do it.

Yes I know, I should have been more clear in my original question. I don't want to use "save for web" because I already have an action that I like for preparing my images for web. I know the result and like it, I just don't feel like I know what I'm going to get with "save for web," as the compression seems to vary from image to image. I guess I just don't understand it well enough.

thanks,

It's really not that difficult to work with "Save for Web". You still need to provide the same type of information that you do when you do a "Save As" but they're just presented a little differently, that's all. As for the compression, you have to determine what you want to specify for it, whether you use "Save As" or "Save for Web" unless you've been defualting to whatever is there when the JPEG panel comes up for "Save As". If you're not sure of what to use, set it to "Medium" and see how that looks for you. Make adjustments, if necessary, from there.

Sorry, but I don't know of any other way to remove the EXIF info from the JPEG file.

Instead of using "save for web", I do the following:

Load photo
Click on "crop" tool (make sure I have it on rectangle shape)
Starting from the top left of the photo (0,0) I click and drag down to the bottom right.
After the whole photo is selected for crop, I simply click and drag photo off (it will leave the original empty). You will have the same image and size but the exif wont be in it when you save it.

ps. Dont save the original when you close it;)

edit. This is done in PhotoImpact (my backup for PS) not sure if it works that way in PSCS.

I'm not following. OH wait, just saw that you are talking about another program. This does not work in PSCS. I have figured it out though. The EXIF can just be deleted as part of the Action steps.

I use PSCS2 and I know that if you save for the web that the exif data does not get saved. This should be the same for PSCS but don't quote me on that

Can anyone else get "save for web" to work in actions? It never seems to work for me, but "save as" works fine.

Mark, ...yes, but my question was whether or not I could remove EXIF without/ using 'save for web.'

Tim... yes, I can easily get 'save for web' to work in my actions, I just prefer not to. I don't know that there are any special tricks, I just included it in an action like I would include another action-step in an action...if that makes any sense. Maybe I'll have to learn to make 'save for web' work though.

thanks,

I use "save for web" in an action all the time and I've never had a problem with it. What exactly is it that isn't working about "save for web" in your case?

I haven't tried "save for web" in an action in a while, but something went wrong when I tried to save for web. It might have been that it saved everything with the same filename, or that it bought up a dialog for every file. I'll try it again some time and report back. Usually I just use bridge these days.
