View Full Version : BAG FOR CAMERA AND LAPTOP

I just returned from a business trip, and I'm done carrying my camera bag and the laptop bag.

So, I'm looking for a bag which will accomodate a 300D with grip, a variety of both short and long lenses (say, maybe, four of 'em, my laptop, and the poswer cords for the laptop.

Travelling with two bags has just gotten to be too much, and I need to make a change.

I'm not looking to break the bank on this.

Thanks!

Steve

This one (http://www.billingham.co.uk/prodbuy.asp?id=63) will do very nicely. Not cheap, but definately worth it. Doesn't shout 'Camera!', and lasts a lifetime. (I've got a 335 for over 7 years now)

"Not cheap"? That's like saying the Pope is "not Jewish".

It comes in at almost $575.00 US. That's waaaaaay too much. I'd rather spend that cash on glass.

Thank you, though, for the recommendation...

There's only one, as far as I'm concerned. hands down...Lowepro Computrekker Plus AW. About $150. Awesome bag. I fit everything in my signature in it, except for my bracket, with room left over. Safety straps, plenty of padding, and customizable compartments (TONS OF THEM!)

Just as a matter of interest, Ronald, is there any easy way of carrying the bracket around? I'm very tempted by a Custom Brackets outfit like yours in the future - the plan would be to buy a 580EX to go with my 20d / BG-E2 combination, then look for a bracket (not forgetting the Canon Off Shoe Cord 2).

Does the bracket come apart at all? I wonder if I could somehow stick it in the end of my tripod bag. I realise that there's Stroboframe products that fold up - but they're not in the league of the QRS-35-EV.

Wow... That looks like it's EXACTLY what I'm looking for.

Hmm, that would be quite awesome. Does it fit a 17 inch laptop though?

NM, Just found out that it does indeed fit a 17 inch laptop. Awesome. I'm pretty sold.

Me too.

I just called my local dealer, and he's got one for $179.00. Ritz (online) has it for $159.99...

Check ebay ... much recommended bag and in the UK ebay have sellers offering large discounts on this one. Sure it'll be the same in your distant land.

adorama makes one that looks like nothing like a camera back - more like a business satchel. Pretty cool. You can take it into a client meeting or with your boss and they have no idea.

I have the lowepro off trail 2 and am looking for another to carry more. Does this allow the bodies with, say a 70-200 attached?

ROTFL

It's 430 at B&H. In my case that would be less then 10% of the equipment in it.
Also, my 335 is already more than 7 years old. Annualy it costs less than some cheaper bags I've used which fell apart on me after 2 years....
Then again, I think a bag is very personal, and Billingham is the only one I've found I'm actually happy with. (I think Domke would work nice as well, but it is a bit underpadded IMO)

Thank you, though, for the recommendation...
Welcome to it ;) Enjoy whichever bag you'll get, but do check out a Billingham if you get the chance

My 15" powerbook is a snug fit so cannot see how it can take a 17".

My Computrekker has at various times held a Bigma, 100-400 IS L, 70-200 2.8, 300mm IS L (not all at the same time of course!!) and other smaller lenses around the side. can get heavy but the backpack is well padded and has good strapping, etc. 100% happy with mine.

Further to my previous posting, my apologies, I should have read that it was the Computrecker PLUS that was being discussed which of course, unlike the standard version, take a 17"".

Steve,
I have this bag...
http://www.adorama.com/TR5618BK.html?searchinfo=tamrac%205618&item_no=1

It holds my laptop, camera, flash, two big L lenses, and three to four smaller lenses. It has a nice little pull-out sleeve for memory cards and batteries. I use this bag when I want to lug a lot of equipment around.

You guys must be very strong. I have the computer trekker. I loaded mine with my 1dsmkII, 17-40, 24-70 f2.8, 100mm macro, 70-300 DO IS, and my 70-200 f2.8 IS, along with 1.4 tc, my 15 inch stinkpad in the outer compartment, my epson p2000 and the 580ex.

The bag had to be over 50 pounds and I could barely pick it up and put it on my back. I would never carry that much in it again.

I didn't say it was easy to carry. I just said it holds alot of stuff!;)
Often I will fill the big bag with everything I think I might need. Then I bring a smaller bag or backpack if I need to break it down a little bit.

Well, I picked up the Computrekker AW this afternoon. I called me dealer and he said he had two of them, and the price was $179.00. I was good with that, as if I purchased it online I'd have to pay shipping.

Anyway, I get there, and there they are; two Computrekker AW's. One was priced at $179.00, the other was priced at $159.00. When I pointed this out to my friend (the guy who works at the dealer) he pointed to the one for $179.00 and said "Well, you'd be stupid to buy that one!"

I went with the latter of the two, and I think I'm going to be real happy with it. Finally, I'll have only one carry-on bag.

Thanks for the tip, Ron...
