Help, i've been using a 20D and i have now done something silly (maybe ). i have just bought a 1Dmk2n (batteries on charge and a cup of tea to stop me shakin as i stroke the camera body) boy this is one must have camera.
anyway, i will be keeping the 20D. and i know it's probley a stupid question, but i'm worried about the files from the two cameras getting confused when downloading to the computer.( i use a firewire card reader.) the 1Dmk2n seems to have the same file numbering.
i'm sure i have seen a thread about this, but cannot find it. can some one with two cameras describe what to do or point me to the thread please?
anyway back to reading the manual to get ready for tomorrows outting.
Glenn.
P.S does any one know if i will be able to down load RAW from 1Dmk2n to rawshooters essentials 2005

When I upgraded from 300D to 20D I had the same problem so I put all my photos from 300D in a seperate folder structure with the name 300D as base. Then I created a new folder structure for 20D photos named 20D. This way the file numbering does not conflict.
I don't know if 1D MK II (N) have any options to help with this.

Thanks Tommy,
for your quick response!.
so as i understand it, i just make two seperate folders on the computer, one for the 20D and one for the 1Dmk2n and download the files from the camera to the matching folders.
back to studying the manual.......:D

I just went thru the same exercise with a 300D and a 20D. I shoot raw in both and found that the file names had different prefixes so they just all go together in the same folder. The 300D starts with CRW and the 20D with IMG.. Don't know about the 1D. My problem is with the CF cards and keeping them separate....that will really mess up your numbering.
Oh, and congratulations on the new addition.

One feature of the MKIIN is custom file names..I think the first 3-4 characters are set by the camera owner. That, in addition to separate folders on your PC, will prevent any doubt of where the files came from.

Exactly. Check out page 75 of your manual. :)

To answer your second question (I forgot)...No the current version of RSE is 1.1.3 and does not suppport the MKIIn yet.

Thanks guys,
i new it was likely to be something simple. just goes to show, read manual and then read again at least twice more. ( steep learning curve, but with the 1dmk2 it will be a joy :D )
pity about RSE 2005, i really like this program, not overly impressed with canons own RAW processing programs.

As one of my hats at my office, I manage all of our camera gear (mostly 10D's and 20D's for the digital stuff). I always use ZoomBrowser to download "dated" folders to a folder called "Download" then move the images to the appropriate folder for the camera. It seems strange to write it out, but I swear it is less confusing (at least for me) than trying to set a download location each time and not mess it up.

My "N" has way different file names than my 20D.....shouldn't be an issue
