I have had my 10d for 2 weeks. I use the Canon 28-135 IS and the Canon 100-400 IS lenses. I am now getting ERROR 99 after about 2 exposures in any mode, almost at random. I cannot shoot more than 4 frames continuously without an ERROR. Both lenses are new. Does anyone know what is wrong? Any similar problems? I called Canon and they weren't sure what was wrong.

Thanks

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

ERROR 99 usually means an incompatible lens. I would try cleaning the sensors on the lenses and the camera with a bit of isopropyl and a Q-tip. It's worth a try, just be careful when you clean the camera contacts, not to get any debris in the body itself.

Canon told me to do that too. I tried it and unfortunately it didn't help. The thing I don't understand is that it is happening with both of my new Canon lenses. They seem to work fine for the first few shots then the ERROR 99 pops up. I used the camera with the same lenses for almost 3 hours without any problems, and now without fail, I get the ERROR 99 message. It almost sounds like the shutter didn't finish when the error comes on. Any help would be great. It takes great pictures when it works!

Cal, I think you mean the gold electronic contacts on the lenses, not the sensors.

I did some more experimenting. The error 99 code comes up randomly even without a lens mounted on the camera. It will take 2-3 exposures, then error. I think the porblem is in the camera body. Any suggestions? I am afraid I will have to send it back to Canon. Thanks
