WHEN UPGRADING FROM ZOOMBROWSER 3.1 THE MANUAL REQUIRED IMAGE LIBRARY 1 TO BE COPIED TO A LEVEL HIGHER THAN THE PROGRAM FILE IN ORDER TO DISPLAY THUMBNAIL IMAGES IN THE ZOOMBROWSER WINDOW. . iT SUGGESTED C\IMAGE LIBRARY 1. hAVING DONE THIS WITH A 4.1 G LIBRARY i SUDENLY HAVE 8 GBITS OF MEMORY TIED UP.

iT DOES NOT SEEM THAT SHOULD BE NECESSARY JUST TO DISPLAY THUMBNAILS IN THE ZOOMBROWSER WINDOW.

wHAT SHOULD i DO. OR WHAT HAVE i DONE WRONG. oR DO i JUST HAVE TO LIVE WITH THIS MASSIVE USE OF HARD DRIVE MEMORY.

wILL ALL NEW IMAGES IN 7.0 REQUIRE DOUBLE THE MEMORY FOR EAACH IMAGE????

HELP PLEASE

I am using ZoomBrowser EX4, I haven't heard about 7.0 and I just got this off the cannon site a week ago. ???

anyway....

I think the only reason that you were instructed to move your pictures during the upgrade is incase the directory got wiped. A safety measure only. and the default directory ..

It appears as if on startup Zoombrowser defaults to the- Desktop\My Documents\My Pictures directory, and I haven't found how to change that, but you can navigate to another directory to view pictures.
I don't see any reason you need two copies of your pictures.

I would suggest that you uninstall Zoombrowser 4 and reinstall it. Don't know what OS you have but XP just downloads it with a couple of points you must click. But just click on next until you get installation finished. Other than that, you can go to Canon and install Zoombrowser 4 again. It will override the previous version but will ask you if it should. Uninstall and reinstall would be easier.

correction should read 4.0 not 7.0

Canon has finally replied as follows;

1. 4.0 zoombrowser will not support the canon or any other scanner. I think they want you to pay for the GOLD upgrade from canon , of course.

2. When upgrading to 4.0 the image library must be duplicated in a folder above zoombrowser in order for the thumbnails to be displayed. To move the image library means that your previously created albums can no longer find their images.

3. Canon suggests not to upgrade if these are important considerations. Which they are

comment: Either canon software people are idiots or else canon is trying to rip off their customers.

you choose..

Just downloaded 4.0. This is an upgrade? I can't use raw files anymore from within the application, I have to start the tiff conversion program seperately. What a useless piece of crap. Shame on Canon for even releasing this. I am not a beta tester. The front end is very nice but the funcionality sucks. What were they thinking?

My guess is that this is a safety feature. If you'll notice in ZB 4, the Program Files folder, and the Windows folder are both greyed out. This is to prevent someone from accidentally deleting programs or system files from within ZB. In the ZB ver 3, your Image Library One folder was located inside the Program Files folder. If you don't move it, you can't view it in ZB 4. There is no need to have the folder COPIED to a location outside the Program Files folder; you can just move it. I hope this helps clarify the situation.

The new version looks pretty slick, but functionally, it's slow and systematically cumbersome. I'm going to find my old download and revert to the previous version. Bad Move, Canon.

Hi.
I also just upgraded to ver 4 and am not sure I like it. It is slow and I haven't found a way to attach the canon raw converter to the program. I assume there is a way.
