The flickr thing seems to require membership to get to your picture. Browsing did not turn up anything that I would associate with your work. Will tune in later!

Now we're talking.

The first picture is by far my preference. It has better balance and the base of the monument is up off the bottom edge of the picture, and I'm sure you will be able to do a little re-adjustment of the highlights when you get a chance.

Take a close look at the two pictures, and see if YOU can see anything about the composition of the two pictures that is different.

Also, given everything else being equal, think about whether or not there might be an advantage in shooting from the directly opposite side of the monument. In other words, just where was the sun? In the first picture it's difficult to tell where it was, but one thing is for certain - in Kansas in October the sun is NEVER directly overhead!

Interesting, they do appear a bit soft. And the texture of the marble monument makes it look grainy...

But like I said, interesting shots. I'm not a big fan of cemeteries.

Thank you both for your critique, support, and helpful comments. It is midterm time so I've not been able to address your responses.
One is my favorite as well. It has some breathing room and whether it shows or not I liked the arc of trees .
The 100mm f2 usm arrived today. macro ring flash will be here soon. maybe I will find time to shoot some other things, try the zoom, and post for your most welcome commentary and help.
thanks folks!!

Sorry -- don't really like it. No much in originality or technique. Don't feel bad though...I'm not much better and I've been doing it for over 40 years ... Keep working as I feel you have potential...Orlin

I don't care much for it...there is no story in this stand alone photo and the light is very harsh...

Keep at it...
