Just wanted everyone to be aware that when using the Sigma 28-300 compact zoom you need to use an F-stop of F8 or higher to get sharp photos. I spent 3 hours taking photos at the local zoo and noticed that about 90% were very soft...some could be fixed in photoshop but others were just too far gone. Using an F-stop of 4.5, 5.6 the photos come out terrible. I am going to rent a Canon lense to see if they have the same problem, although they probably won't. I would like to here from anybody else that has experienced this issue. Thanks.

Hmmm are you suprised??
A superzoom @ full aperture... No kidding.
Get a Canon like the 24-85 and the 70-200/4L to be able to use 10D full potential.
Also some of Sigmas EX-series are good.
Also, since the 10D has a low-pass filter you need to apply some USM to your'e pictures before print-outs.

Tested today with a Canon 70-210 USM lens even at F4 no problems with sharpness.

I posted a message last night regarding my problems with my new Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 EX APO HSM when used with my 10D into the Sigma 70-200 2.8 EX HSM thread.
In brief, I get rather bad front focus with that lens, and also AF works rather poorly (stops intermittently before reaching "focus", and it's very slow). When I use an external flash to provide AF assist, focusing is improved.
According to the Sigma web page at http://www.sigma-photo.com/html/news/Elan7.htm , non-HSM lenses made before December 2000 will require updating to function properly with the 10D. However, the page is rather specific that the modification is not needed for HSM type lenses, and anyhow my lens is brand new so the note should not apply. Oh well. :-(
