I'm a new S45 user (and lover) but am having touble setting my default fomat to tiff instead of jpeg. Is the only way to get tiffs to set the camera to raw images, then convert and save them as tiffs? That seems so tedious to me. Thanks, Meredith

A RAW image on an S45 is around 4MB with no loss of quality, and it gives you the option to choose the white balance and custom values (sharpness, saturation, contrast) after shooting. It also keeps the maximum range of recorded values, which can help rescue over-exposed shots.
A TIFF at the same colour depth would be 24MB, the white balance and custom values would be fixed when the shot is taken, and you would not be able to 'stretch' the dynamic range to help those over-exposed shots.
If convenience is more important than quality, I'd suggest using the max size/minimum compression JPEGS - they're very good quality!

Saving your pics in RAW-format offers you the same quality as TIFF (because it's a "lossless" format) and gives you the advantage of using only 4 Megs instead of 24. Once transferred to your PC you can save the pictures as TIFF and get and keep all the quality you need.
