@ Mike ~ very nice to see those places again, we were in that region in my film days and if memory serves me right you did miss an interesting interior in Chambord - it has two spiral staircases close together and they "turn" in opposite directions i.e. clockwise & counterclockwise. Oh and what struck us with the French Chateau was how bare they are compared the likes NT and English Heritage.

Thanks Laurence :)

I found some of them to be a little bare but a couple of them were very well presented inside with plenty to see. The woman who worked at the campsite we were staying at told us that Chambord wasn't worth looking round as it was quite empty inside...I kind of wished we'd ignored her advice but alas no!

Adrian, we were very fortunate with the weather, sunny through the middle of the day with the rain turning up half way through the last race, and yes the G.P. course.
I heard a lot of squeaking coming from the trees at the back of the track, and found this little guy waiting for his lunch.

I noticed you went to Blois ~ we had an excellent meal in Le Cheval Blanc, first time we had seen the desert with a 'spun' sugar nest over it. Was lovely food with sorbets to die for.......yum yum yum :D

Not sure what else it would mean. I didn't apply to buy any memorabilia ;)

I don't recall what I bid for now, or how many of each so I have no idea which of my bids was successful. I'm certain that at least one was though, given the charge.

Checked my visa and found that £66 has been withdrawn. Looks like I'm only going to 1 event also and these tickets were £30 each. Bit disappointing

On checking the calendar and the ticket prices, I think I may have a pair of tickets to one of these:

Rowing 1/8/12 This is most likely. As there is general admission available for this event.

Beach Volleyball 28/7/12, There are many days for this to choose from, so could be this.

Diving 10/8/12 (maybe Tom Daley winning Gold here?) Doubt it will be this, as it is an indoor over subscribed event I feel.

Some more from Provence from a walk through the countryside, we scrabbled through a mile or so of woodland and came to a great vinyard with a view of a little hamlet on a hill called Blauvac and then Mont Ventoux behind.

Anyone bored this weekend and want to shoot a bit of fencing? We're having a little club competition in Pimlico (at the reasonable hour of 13:00) on Saturday. This venue is a bit rubbish but has an outdoor space that makes shooting easier. I'm competing which makes shooting it tricky ;)

Not sure if there is one local to you but our local RSPB reserve is having Nightjar Walks all this week to coincide with Springwatch, utterly fantastic!!

Isn't that cheating shooting at a fencing tournament, hardly fair on the opponent :D

Yo............yeah back now.......will text you tomoz about getting out next week..........yes 10 stopper but I reckon its more like 10.75 stops.......and then I reckon it could do with bumping exposure a little even.

Think if I was buying one it would be a Lee with the holder as its just a pain screwing it on and off to focus etc......tried it in Liveview but could not autofocus with it on

It's a 1 to 1 12 Month long mentoring course, covering Technique, composition and lighting, model shoots, assisting on 3 live shoots, marketing and business advice,Portfolio building. it consists of 12 days hands on over 12 months backed up with remote mentoring, critique.

It looks pretty comprehensive but not cheap, in fact you can by a 1ds mKIII for about the same money.

Netgear as always been good and reliable for me.

I would get:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netgear-Range-Wireless-N-Gigabit-Router/dp/B002P54B80/ref=pd_cp_computers_1

You might want to hold out for a while or have a word with sky 1st...

http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-news-announcements/42745-new-sky-wireless-n-router.html

The performance of N can drop alot depending on the distance from the router though but I stream 720p Comfortably.

Just search for wireless N300 adsl router - all makes are pretty good although I have a preference for Belkin and Netgear. The dongles don't have to match the router to benefit for the increased range i.e. a wireless G dongle and still see a wireless N signal. Obviuosly better to go for all N but I'd no chuck away a working G job unless it had issues.

This is true but it is important to realise the B or G signals drop more and start from a much lower base.

sounds like the meet idea needs to be fleshed out then...

which reminds me - is there going to be a 28 days later meet again this year Neal - I'd like to get involved if there is!

Id hope to do one, just thinking up Locations.. maybe just around the Waterloo / Westminster area? (the tricky part is finding something to do for the 4-5 hours of darkness).

I am jealous of your glass and that you are going to the Olympics :)

Yep Grap a 50 1.4 and get shooting.

We should have a portrait meet. We may even be able to get some bikini clad models to lay across Clair's Shiny New BWM :)

I'm sure the tickets I got are the ones I wanted the least ;)

I agree with the portrait meet, as well we STILL need to have our 50mm meet that we talk about every year or so.

Maybe I should get off my ass and organize that one? :)

To be quite honest i would spend the money on getting out and about with my camera, meet up with some dodgy characters from the internet get some feedback and share knowledge and practise, practise, practise.
One day a month for a year seems very impractical.

It's not an overnight idea, it has been under consideration for some time along with several other Irons in the fire, my strategy is many strings to my bow.
Some linked to the industry i am in already others not, so the course would be more of an investment as opposed to an expense.
The drive to get out of the current job is partly life style and partly writing on a wall.

Thanks, i appreciate the Input.
It doesn't run at 1 day per month, it is modules based, some 2 Days some 4 but i agree it seems pricey for 12 Days hands on. I will go meet with them and may consider doing one of their shorter less expensive courses as a taster.

Well some good few years back (in film days  ) I went on a one day seminar about photography business and the one thing that has stuck in the grey cells and applies to most/all location based businesses was when he asked where folk lived and one person said they live on the coast............his reply was just remember half your possible customers fishes i.e. on the coast literally you have a limited radius of the potential places their customers lived ! The obvious inference was that that person would have to work doubly hard or travel twice the distances of his inland counterparts/competitors???

Can anyone recommend a Wireless N router and dongles as my Sky is back on the 10th June, so would like to upgrade to N instead of G.

Nothing like a new pad to keep you busy

Don't get a new router without checking with Sky first, I bought and N router a couple of years ago but sky do not release the relevant codes so you cannot use them, I don't know if they have changed their policy

Time to update my gear page :)

Very nice and I am suitably jealous

I see where you are coming from Lee, I have probably only put about 200 counts on the shutter this year but that is down to other demands on my time rather than inspiration.
My major weakness is photographing people and this is mainly down to confidence so i really want to get some experience, leading to confidence thus People, if that makes any sense......Coupled with being sick of my current career.

Seen a house we really like today.

Quick question, what sort of level would you put an offer in at, house has been on the market for 9 months ( 2 previous chains have broken down ), it was originally on at 480 now reduced to 420. It is vacant as the owners moved to a new house in February so I am assuming they are paying out on two mortgages, we are in rented with no chain.
Thinking of putting our first offer in at 395. i have checked on the internet and no similar properties have been sold in that area since the depression so hard to judge??

Current market with it being on the market for so long with no sale and as you say logically they are carrying a lot of debt.........knock 10 to 15% off with the possibility of getting it at 8-9% off ??? Depends on how desparate they are to sell and how in love Kris is with what you have found ;) i.e. 395 is possibly too high an opening offer???

Laurence thanks, I suppose the bottom line is we can always up the offer if they turn down

Yup, always possible to increase it & that is what negotiation is all about ;)

Menat to add you can get property price data (histories) by postcode/area/actual house on 192.com and I also saw similar such info on zoopla ~ very useful IMO for seeing what the houses have costed on 'that' street.

The ideal of course if one of the same type that sold within the last 6 months to give you a clue as how realistic the agents price is oh and very few agents will admit it to a buyer but if you find the price does indeed look "wrong" for the current market it is possible the vendor ignored the valuation price and simply insisted what price it should go to market...........afterall if on at did you say 480 now after 9 months now at 420 to try again......is this with the same agent........well cheeky offer time methinks ;) Ask the agent how many have viewed it in the past 2 months and watch to see how truthfully you think he answers???

From the sound of it you are ideal buyers i.e. no chain and money/mortgage ready to sign on the line. Their agent should be biting your hand off knowing how well positioned you are to buy that house! I recall the recent house price pundits were suggesting a fall of a few % over the next 12 months and then rising (steadily???) over the following 4 to 5 years?

PS they may not have two mortgages but a bridging loan and that will be hurting them IMO badly!!!

PPS I see you mention doing a price search on www and nothing recent..........well there are I hope places/info for trends in all areas showing % drops that will AFAIK be a guide.....better thana wet finger in the wind :D

Broadly it is a buyers market at the moment, though the supposedly the available 'stock' is not vast that is why I suggested knocking 10-15% off the 420 but do not be surprised if they say well we have already reduced it by 60...............well the market is the market is they genuinely want to sell and you equally want to buy there should be a meeting point between your opening offer and them viewing 'an offer' as acceptable.

Do not forget the 'power of the pause' and 'leverage' ~ by that I mean when you have made an offer the agent may take sometime to get back to you depending on the vendors speed of thinking.........if they counter offer asking you to come up to "your offer + X" wait a few hours/overnight before replying with your revised offer (pause?) ~ when you feel you have offered as much as you want to go to, tell the agent that is your last and final offer and even (if you are comfortable) a little fib that it is time dependent as you, if this falls through, have another house you are lining up (leverage). By time dependent make that no more than 36hours (your choice of time???)

Of course it could all fall into place whilst you are sitting in the agents office to your satisfaction :D

Oh on the happy assumption you get a deal ~ make sure you make it conditional of it being taken off the market with a "reassurance" that they will show the house to no one else! You do not want them playing silly B's !

Thinking of putting our first offer in at 395. i have checked on the internet and no similar properties have been sold in that area since the depression so hard to judge??

Wow that sounds like a wooper of a mortgage but i guess that's the way it is nowdays, not too many advantages with being an old fart but along with Cheaper car insurance this is one of them.
Good luck with the offer, surely the worst that can happen is the vendor rejects it.
