Nice prop blur! :D
Does this site header work or is there too much dead space either side?
http://www.mattpetersphotography.co.uk/
I'd have the swirly butterfly bits nearer each edge, and a little more space underneath too, or move Matt Peters Photography up a wee bit.
I know I'm a fussy cowbag but I think in the weddings blurb you've used the words unfold, and capture too often.
It's looking great though :D;)

I would move the text up a bit so the bottom of the flourish goes below the text (just above those butterfly things at the ends).
At the moment my eye is too drawn to the dead space above your name.
Otherwise looks good though!

Mine will be taking a bashing soon...torn between a few purchases...was looking at getting some elinchrom lights but I'm veering towards pocket wizards now as I think they'll be more suited to how I shoot...and I really would like a 35L...

@ Matt ~ had quickish looksee at the site - nice and crisp though a few things stood out to me as needing your attention???
The 3 location pictures on the Portraits page should ideally show IMO 3 different children by way of age/location/gender.....i.e. more scope in the portfolio ;)
Your mention of prices is all over the place ~ IMO rather than stating them repeatedly on the various pages refer to them and maybe hyperlink in the page text to the "prices page". Also on the "Commercial" page you say starting at £50 and on the prices page you say £100.
On the Commercial page it comes across as though you have struggled to express your ideas and to you do rather repeat yourself :( And as for "I can supply you with the perfect images to throw you into the future & beyond!" If you are going to use words to intimate the value of the images to give them future benefit please use the word project not throw e.g. "to project your business into the future......." As the old saying goes would you buy from this man when reading the blurb.
I do hope I have not come across as too critical???
Matt Peters

Cheers guys.. Very much appreciated! The text hyper links are on my to do list as is the commercial side which if I'm honest I'll prob ditch anyway.
Need to fix the image alignment on the wedding page too, seems to hang to the right?!

I think if the links were centered it'd suit the smaller header better. Too much white space is definitely no bad thing, I like it :)

Nice one! :)
I think I'll be getting some pocketwizards in the next week or so (was going to go for studio lights but I think putting my speedlights to better use would be the way to go for now). What light modifiers, stands, brackets etc do people suggest getting. The westcott umbrella kit and...? Softbox? I quite like the look of the cheetah qbox but I can't find it in the uk.

Nice purchase, the 100-400 is an awesome bit of kit!! :D
I have made a quick couple of changes.. Made the banner wider & lifted the text & added a hyper link into the portraits page to the pricing. Just need to shift the menu bar across & figure out why the wedding image is not central?!

I quite like the lastolite ez boxes (or similar knockoffs) and use mine quite a bit now that I never really take it down. These light stands (http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?q=manfrotto+nano+light+stand&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=15242067805279038165&sa=X&ei=Nf5dTof1MIWZ8QPZ1ZioAw&ved=0CEYQ8wIwAA) are great for speedlights.
As for umbrellas, about the only recommendation I have is not to bother with those convertible ones (where you can take covers off to make them shoot through etc). They're just too much of a pain in the ass. Umbrellas are pretty cheap, pick up a reflective and a shoot through if you think you need both.

Cheers for that buddy. :) I'll have a look. Not quite sure whether to buy 2 TT1s and 3 TT5s or 1 TT1 and 3 TT5s for now...would be nice to trigger from both camera bodies tough...but more is more expensive! And the zone controller, that looks useful.

Doing a wedding next Thurs for a mate at Weybridge Reg Office, looking forward to it. Only a small affair, 10 people max I think including me and the wife! Bit worried as he's a bit of a joker and I've never managed to snap him without pulling a funny face. I have his wifes permission to give him a good slap if he is not playing ball, plus I reckon they would be back in the front door for a divorce if so.

I bought a universal charger in Jessops earlier this year...can't remember the make but it does most Canon batteries although I think you have to buy a separate plate for the 5DII batteries.

If you're wondering about those issues that they created the RF blocking sleeve for the flash, they only happened with the NA units due to the frequencies they used. The EU ones don't suffer from the same interference.

This page (http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=7-10050-10598) has a good test of all of the resolutions for this issue, along with this quote
Reminder: All PocketWizards sold in the U.S., Canada and a handful of other countries operate in the 340-354MHz frequency range. Testing for this article was done only with these versions, and the range results we state are therefore applicable only to these versions. PocketWizards sold in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and many other countries operate at 433-434MHz and are less affected by Speedlite RF noise from the 580EX, 580EX II and 430EX. They are not unaffected, however, and so may also benefit from shielding accessories like the AC5 and AC7, but we haven't tested this.
So I guess the EU ones aren't totally unaffected, but it doesn't sound like it's really an issue.

Thanks for the info :)

no to be honest this is the first time since Saturday i've sat at a computer, i'm at work till 10pm today so hopefully I will get some time later to have a look at the links you sent me, its funny that it only happened in manual mode and not in AV?

I have no issues with my 580II or 430II with my 2xFlex/1x mini setup. The interference issues are far more dramatic for the US Frequencies - the EU is much less prone to problems. I have had them firing the equivalent distance of half a football pitch away ( my friend ran off with the flash at the last wedding i did and thats about how far he got)
Also if you are picking up the flex system, you HAVE to get the AC3 zone controller. I have had mine for about a month and its incredible. Only £50 and it lets you remotely change the power of each channel individually AND switch the speed lights from manual to TTL at the press of a button.
Well worth it, especially if you are putting them inside a softbox but want to shoot in manual mode or you have a flash positioned far away.

When we went to Donna Nook we used rain covers of various descriptions and they worked well. You can see from this picture how windy it got

I only have 1 UV filter in use and that is on my 16-35L. That is the only lens I own that has a shallow hood. The rest have deep enough hoods that I don't worry about protection from filters...and yes, I am crazy...sometimes!

Mark - go into the firmware options , choose one of the channels (c1/c2) and set the camera type to 5DII for all of your PW's. When using on the 5D use the channel you have set up.
The 5DII is the most finickey of all the canon camera for some reason - recent firmwares have improved things though.
I get the odd dark band every now and again, but its just a shadow - not a black bar like that!

There is an extra £7.00 to "Conquer the Tower" because I live in the Borough I get the general admission for free, the tour does explain the history of the Tower and Castle. There are some restrictions where you are allowed to take pictures (none of the Royal apartment area for security reasons).
I did it because I used to go up the Round Tower all the time when I was a child in the 1960's the only restriction then was no access when the Queen was home.

I have an R strap and love it think mine is the RS5. It is more expensive than the optech but the main advantage is your shoulder is taking the weight as opposed to your neck. My neck used to ache after a few hours with the optech strap but does not with the R strap. Re one point of contact I have not found it to be a problem. If you think monopods and tripods use the same point.

couple of examples, RAW sooc and yes I know the photos a bit rubbish...

I noticed some banding on some of my photos of late using flash below the max sync speed

Mornign all.
I have a general question about lighting that I'm hoping someone here can help with. Cindy and I do a lot of hotel and restaurant reviews which entail plenty of internal shots - some in pretty poor light. So far, we've go away with higher ISO's and/or long exposures as often, everything in the frame is static. However, we quickly found the limitations of this when we tried to shoot some internal shots in a spa and pool area with people in it.
So, can someone recommend a simple, easy to understand setup that we could look at to help out in these circumstances. It would also need to be resonable portable if at all possible. So far, all we have is a couple of 430EX's. Any advice appreciated.

Morning JD. I haven't much experience on that either but when I get my PWs I'll have a play with them, see what I can get them to do for interiors.

All I ever do is either 580 with the Gary Fong thing which spreads the light very evenly a bit like a lamp shade would do which works well in a small to medium size room, or two shoot through brollies and play around with settings till it looks even in a medium to large room, but I'm sure there must be a POTN thread about it somewhere on here that would tell you the right way.

You could probably get away with the pair of 430's to be honest. Just set them up to fire straight up into the ceiling (maybe one in each corner behind the camera?). You can still do fairly slow shutter speeds as the flash will freeze everything for you. I suspect if you stay above say 1/4 second you won't get enough ghosting to matter.

that's good they appreciate your photog skills too :D I've seen loads of fb links to "do you recognise this so and so". So far, I don't recognise any of 'em
Thanks for input on the straps, I def want an across the body one, not a neck one. Will do more research today along with making plum chutney from the 20 lbs of plums I picked last night, thank god the tree is bare now.
Jonathan, the softbox I have is pretty good, it's only 60cm x 60cm. I've used it to light rooms in the past. I think if you don't use some kind of diffuser you'll get some godawful shadows, even if you bounce the light. Can you control both your speedlights from the camera, that will save you doing the trigger thing. Failing that, just make the people stand still
