Omg Dennis - they are awesome. I love that yhey are so tiny that they are perfect for a bathtub studio!
They do grow quickly that's for sure - in another 4 weeks they'll be almost fully grown and feathered. As as for the bathtub, it makes cleaning all the poo from the "studio" an awful lot easier :)

Thanks for the comments on the barley pics - was well pleased with how they all turned out

went to the royal wedding on friday - Tried to do a kind of storyboard type thing.. here's the day through my lens: http://www.hip-fire.com/projects/3133006

A great set and unique perspective of the day.

A quick few from the weekend. Been spending most of today unpacking everything for the kitchen. I left a high cupboard door open, went to leave the kitchen and walked straight into the corner of the open door and cut my scalp open! Didnt stop bleeding for about 40 minutes despite being a pretty small cut. bit of a headache now :lol:

Also what do you think of the processing on these - i am prototyping some new techniques. ( apart from the firelight one of course)

Loving all the animal shots, the ducklings are cool I need some of them!

I assume with the fire in Bracknell area that the look-out is closed, I am due there on Thursday night for a run. Anyone know?

Here is a pic of a bungalow near me that recently had a fire, how does the chair always survive!

Got my farmer matey to pose for this in Norfolk - I'm a huge fan of old portraits of people with their animals so was trying to re-create that kind of feel.

Ali is coping well with the radiotherapy (a little more than half way through the treatment now), and she's spending the weekends at home now. It gives her something to look forward to during the week and helps the weeks pass more quickly.

Canon 400 2.8 II Lens

A gob-smackingly superb lens that it's been a privilege to own.

Canon 400 2.8 II: £2,700
Serial number UL0301 (makes it a 1997 lens I think).
Optically perfect.
Extremely fast to focus.
Some paint wear as you can see in the pics.
Includes the hood which I reinforced at the open end as they chip easily.
Includes the original Canon lens cap.
Takes beautiful pictures. Stunning for sport, birds, or anything far away.
I'll include a metal carrying case (not Canon) if you want it.
You'll lose little or no money with this lens - the used prices are very strong indeed. Buy it and sell it in a year or two and effectively use it for nothing.
I don't recommend posting this lens as it is pretty heavy.

I did this for a friend's birthday last year ... It was a fancy dress party mind you ... All I did was hang a White sheet up, install my studio lights, and put the camera on a tripod ... Everyone LOVED it!!

Will she provide the costumes? If not, then there is a cheap online site (will have to let you know the URL later as I can't remember it) ... You'll need to add the cost to whatever your hourly rate is ... do you have any kind of printer you could set up? Lights? I'd be happy to lend you my backdrop if it's help ...

Mike
4th of May 2011 (Wed), 11:05
Not sure about the costumes, I assume she will provide them...

As far as lights go I have a couple of 580ex2s and a 430ex...no umbrellas though...

I'm not 100% confident about printing on site - I might suggest that they purchase from my website instead, as long as I can get the shots up pretty quickly afterwards...

The "new Lens " is very much a DIY affair and the only clue I'll give is that it is a fixed focal length and aperture, which I don't know what it is as I've not made it yet, and won't be the sharpest lens in the world.
Edit: and it can be used on both crop and full frame.

This was the set I took ... I have upgraded the backdrop since into one of those that pops up and has a longer train ... but the idea would be the same

http://www.flickr.com/photos/clare_forster/sets/72157622300240515/

I'd definitely say to her that you want to print outside of the event so that you can produce relevant quality etc etc! But I tell you, the photo booth idea is such fun (and as a photographer it's easy!!!)

I have a couple of studio lights you could borrow if you want - they're only a starter kit - but one has an umbrella and one has a softbox ...

Ah Matt your style is so 'you' now ;)

I do like them but not all of them, sorry to spoil the party, though there are just a few that do not sit well with me the rest are crackers and IMO have value if you get them "out there". If you had numbered them I could have more easily listed the ones that IMO are the best and there are lots :D e.g the policeman bending/bowing his head so all you can see is the badge...............Police publication, memorial service type image are just two commercial potentials I can think of???

Evening all. What a great Set Matt. :) I really like thew Policeman too.

I had to fit a new part to my wifes car tonight. When i took it for a roadtest i noticed this little cheeck chappie wandering in the field opposite my house. So i had to grab the camera when i came in, and stalked him for a while. I managed to get about 30 yards away. This was the result.

I'd heartily recommend an IPS type of monitor as they far exceed TFT/TN panels in terms of quality. I have a Dell 2209WA (which I think is discontinued now) which is superb (Lawrence AKA Box Brownie has the same I think) but this one is very similar (and possibly the updated version from mine):

Just be sure to choose the exact model number, when the 2209WA came out there was also the 2209.....not the same by a long chalk. The plain 2209 was cheaper and had a TN based screen not the e-IPS of the 2209WA.

So if Dell have done the same with more recent models check the reviews and specs and do not be mislead into saving a few £'s by buying what appears to be the "same" model :D

BOTC Rules Update:

There are no restrictions on type of camera used any more so SLR/DSLR/P&S/Bridge cameras are all acceptable formats, as are all other cameras such as pinhole, lomo, mobile phone etc.

Obviously the shots still need to be of decent quality for the comp ;)

Morning all!!

Have a real quick iPad question for those more technically minded than me!! I want to get the cable that will let me plug the iPad into my tv so I could potentially play movies I have on there or set up slide shows of photos etc. I have an HDTV so is it just the digital av adapter I need? The VGA allows me to plug into a monitor or projector - but that doesn't do sound does it ... And altho the component AV does video and sound, it would only go into a tv - not a monitor or projector. I guess I am answering my own question ... If I only want the cable for my HDTV then it's the digital av ... If I want it for a monitor or projector it's the VGA ... And if I want it for an old style tv it's the component...

Right? *blush*

For iPad to HDTV, if the telly has got an HDMI socket, I reckon the Apple Digital AV Adapter
(http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC953ZM/A) is the one you'll need.

You would also need an HDMI cable to go with it.

A couple of times over the last few weeks I have driven past Wingham Wildlife Park and seen a chap lying prone in full camo gear with a rifle (I'm guessing air rifle) shooting the wild rabbits that I always enjoy seeing on my drive home.

They live at the top end of a triangle of grass that is next to the car park and they've been there for years, including a black rabbit that's always with them. I've not seen them or the black one in the last few days...I was kind of annoyed that a "Wildlife" park would condone the shooting of local "wildlife"...

I always think to myself that I ought to go and try and get some pics of them...not going to happen now! :(

Never seen that guy on the way home though wonder if its to do with culling due to disease or something. I'd think he'd use a .22 instead of an air rifle as an air rifle is pretty much good for sparrows or a pigeon at a push - a .22 is pretty dangerous to shoot around a wild life park though, what with tourists and expensive wild animals around. Seems very strange

Actually, you could be right about the .22 - I think he had ear defenders on.

It's right up in the corner near the top of the hill before you go into Wingham.

Sounds like it could be more conservation than cull keeping the numbers down much the same as you'd do deer. Keep on top of numbers and they won't be to much of a problem if they were trying to get rid of the rabits they would block the holes and gas them.

Can't wait to get home now - two weeks is long enough. Sick of Asia but kinda like HK. Early start tomorrow for my flight to Shanghai then late night flight home. Got a few shots from Victoria Peak in HK and a few from the Star Ferry but need to upload then to my home machine before posting. Lens was well fogged up so nit sure they are any good.

Might be worth reporting incase it's someone just enjoying some target practice and no one has challenged him.

Evening all.

Being into rifling myself i can assure you that a .22 pcp Air rifle is more than capable at taking down a rabbit at 60 yards. The shooter may be using ear defenders to reduce the destractions.

As to shooting .22 rimfire. He will need permission from someone to shoot the Land. It is breeding time for rabbits, and Mixi will soon be working its way round. With the Animals at Wingham, they wont want it around.

Anyway. Who's doing what this evening. Looking forward to a good car clean tomorrow. :)

It's getting in these places that takes the time. Getting the first few to trust you. Depends how well known you are with your local council and neighbourhood I suppose.

Evening everyone. I have absolutely no idea what this fire business is - any one been hurt etc?

A couple more shots from my windswept weekend - i have tried to mimic kodachrome from the period for these. I would really value your feedback as i have lost track of whats what having played around with it for so long.

I hope they can put it out soon. That's a lot of land destroyed and a lot of habitat lost. :(
