As with many others, I use the Dell 2209WA. There is a place on eBay that does returns that you cannot tell from new. I have one and it's a cracking monitor and their service is great. Ŗ165 delivered iirc.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DELL-2209WA-22-WIDESCREEN-FLAT-PANEL-TFT-MONITOR-/180617388127?pt=UK_Computing_ComputerComponents_Mo nitors&hash=item2a0da2a05f#ht_5730wt_922

Thanks Jon, pulled the trigger on this one, cant fault that price with a years warranty.

I've just been surfing a forum for serving/ex soldiers and found this description of Lydd and knowing both JD and Wayne come from that neck of the woods thought I'd share.

My most depressing memory of Lydd was running over miles and miles of pebbles, expecting to see the sea over the next crest and seeing yet another unassailable ridge. Lydd is the kind of place where the tide went out a hundred years ago and never came back!!

And I have to admit I do have similar memories of Lydd.

I hope they can put it out soon. That's a lot of land destroyed and a lot of habitat lost. :(

Apparently its burning the peat underground, so even though it looks out it really isn't and a bit of strong wind and its catching again !!

I think there is a subsoil coal fire somewhere in India that has been burning for decades, there was a news item of documentary a while back about this slow buring disaster.

PS Victor, you have PM ;)

Congrats, you will find it a very good screen but for the record "out of the box" it is eye searingly bright and very much benefits from calibration to get the luminance down to in my case just under 100cd ~ important if you wnat what you see on the screen to print as close a match as possible.....sorry if I am teaching you how to suck eggs ;)

I was driving through Bracknell towards the A30 about 7 tonight, loads of fire engines at least 8 heading somewhere so must have been kicking off again somewhere. Think it's too late to head out now and gander but plan to get up early and see the sad damage.

One from last nights visit to Bracknell. This was the main area that the firebrigade were settled at the swinley forest area of the fire.

A W7 Pro question???

Something I have never seen to date was a dialogue box popping up refering to the Encrypting File System with choices of a) Backup Key to external media b) Later ~ will remind next time I logon and c) Never

I clicked on "b" for now

Now I do not know if this was a co-incidence but I was unzipping a zipped file using W7 extract all off of the context menu but I have done this before without that dialgue box popping up.

Googling suggests that it is all to do if one encrypts data and this key makes sure you can unlock it......but to my knowledge I have never encrypted any files???

Any pointers as the correct & appropriate action would be appreciated :)

Wanted to try my first HDR and took some pictures of a windmill near to me a few weeks ago, finally got around to messing with PM tonight.

Windmill HDR- (http://www.flickr.com/photos/reading-matters/5691883710/) by Reading-Matters (http://www.flickr.com/people/reading-matters/), on Flickr

There is a slight halo around the blades, have tried different settings but can't seem to get rid of them. Is this a process screw up by me (am I over cooking it) or was it a problem at the time of shooting?

I used a tripod so should not be movement when capturing. Any comments/help are welcome.

Wow, got an early start so better get some zzzzz :)

Unless you work for MI5, EFS is not relevant to your needs and has a reputation for being flaky. Better to look to a product like Truecrypt (freebie) which allows you to create encrypted folders so you can protect just the sensitive stuff like bank details etc. Encrypting entire hard drives is best left to the guys who leave their laptops on trains or in cabs ;)

I failed to get anywhere close to the fire this morning, I parked my car up in a place called Great Hollands and then walked towards the area finally found a road that did not have a police car with policeman sat inside it.....

So walked along the carrigeway only to see policeman come out the trees and stop me. Oh well talked to him for a bit then made my way to work!

right time to setup my iPad I got yesterday :)

This site (http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/article_pages/Canon_1ds_pinhole.html) may help, this guy used a pin hole on a 1Ds
Dont forget the red rubber band, that makes all the diffrence :)

Ronin Silv
6th of May 2011 (Fri), 13:33
The optimum size for the hole is 0.3mm which is not an easy hole to measure without the right kit so I'll just keep making the holes smaller and smaller till I get it right. Adding tube just increases the focal length using a body cap on it's own on my 450d is the equivalent of about 45mm.

I must get a new cover for my iPhone, this cheap one gives me a bit of (un)intentional vignetting.

Find someone with a "Dremmel"tool, i got a cheap copy from Aldi last year, ideal for working on p.c.b tracks and them tricky little micro jobs, i got a drill set with it 0.3-1.6mm if your around essex you can come and use it if you like.

Thanks mate, we are really pleased with it and can't believe how much it's taken off. We're going to go back to the first couple of locations and reshoot them now we know what we're doing a bit better.

I wonder how much 101 fluffy toys dalmatians would cost? :D

Some beautiful shots there Claire, Especially loving the goldcrest. Really nice Seperation too.

I went clay pigeon shooting today for the first time in 5 years and also the first time since my accident and resulting shoulder injuries. Really happy with how it went - we were shooting flushes, so they send the clays over in a steady stream and you have to reload and fire on them as quick as you can. On my 3rd go i got 42 out of 60 and achieved the 5th highest score out of everyone there. Dead chuffed, especially since beforehand i was convinced that my arm would fall off after just a few shots!!

I took my camera but there were no photos to be had as the shooters were screened behind 7ft hay bails. Nevermind.

Your work, I just tweaked it a bit, I have no idea what the AF-ON button does, share :)

The Canon manual (which Lee suggested I READ ... quite why I don't know when you guys teach me everything I need to know ;) ...) says that when shooting in live view mode, before shooting you focus with either AF or Manual ... THEN you press the AF-ON button to focus in the current focus mode. So, in my case, I switched the camera into live shooting mode, so I could move the camera close to the lizard without needing to get close myself and scare it away, but I was getting frustrated as the live mode remained out of focus (usually I then take it off live mode, and take the shot ... but being macro, that's not a good way of getting the right focus) ... so Lee says "Press the AF-ON" button ... and HEY PRESTO it focused!!!! It's SUCH a cool feature.

I learn better when I do things in practice ... not very good at reading manuals or retaining that info ... but teach me something when I'm shooting and I've a much better chance of retaining it.
