Hi
Can anybody please point me in the right direction of a review of the new canon ef 17-40mm lens. Some shops now stock them but i don't seem to be able to find any unbiased opinions on the lens.
Thanks

Hi

I couldn´t find anything on the net. But in a magazine I did buy today there was a small review of this lens.
sharpness of this lens is good to very good, but the corners are the weak points of this lens ( but if you use a 10D the corners are not interesting :)). There is some distortion at 17 mm (normal for this kind of lens), but it gets better at 40 mm.

I think this is a very good lens, but it´s up to you to decide if the pricetag is acceptable.

cheers

I think the jury is still out on this lens. I can hardly wait for some direct comparisons between the old 17-35 2.8L, newer 16-35 2.8L (which I own), and the Sigma 15-XX.

I rather get the 24mm 1.4 and have the 50mm 1.4 along with my 10D than the 24-40mm
I think primes will always be superior to zooms..

Lots of threads on dpreview.com Canon SLR Talk Forum. Generally not being well received as an "L" lens. David

Michael Reichmann has a nice comparison with the 16-35L f/2.8 at:

His impressions are very favorable, especially at the lower price of the 17-40L f/4.
