i was in the city with a few girls and my brother looking for laptops, and the girls wanted to see Suga, a store in melbourne that makes hard boiled lollies and a bunch of other stuff

they were making them infront of us as per usual, so i took the op to take a bunch of photos, and i thought you guys might be interested :D

here you go!

(maybe i won a golden ticket? :D)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/chevs_n_holdens/ROLLIN.jpg
first they put all the stuff into a big roll, but everything is put there properly so it makes a patern or text when it's finished

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/chevs_n_holdens/WHITElump.jpg
then they roll it into 'stretch' type of lollie stuff, which stops it breaking your teeth if you bite down (they still don't recommend yo bite it)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/chevs_n_holdens/WHITEintoBLUE.jpg
then they put it into blue lollie (berry flavour)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/chevs_n_holdens/ROLLstretch.jpg
this thing is about 70kgs (aobut my weight), so they roll it to the edge of the table, squeeze a 'neck' into it, then lift it up by the neck and let the weight of it stretch it out evenly

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/chevs_n_holdens/STRETCHINGG.jpg
then they stretch morrreeee and it ends up into the thickness of the lollies you eat (starting to see it now?)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/chevs_n_holdens/JOINT.jpg
then it's the right thickness, he gives it to the other guy
NOTE: the table on the right is hot and keeps the lollie stuff soft and plyable
the table on the left is cold steel and makes the lollie go transparent and rock hard

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/chevs_n_holdens/ROLLEDout.jpg
so this guy rolls it out with his hand while it's plyable, and at the same time it cools down and turns into a hard stick

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/chevs_n_holdens/rolledlollies.jpg
now that they are rolled out and ready, but not yet!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/chevs_n_holdens/CHOP.jpg
he chops them up realllllly fast, (like.. faster than a 1Ds MK II shutter!) and on a slight angle

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/chevs_n_holdens/CHOP2.jpg
see?! how fast was that!!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/chevs_n_holdens/endCUP.jpg
then he gives some to us to taste test and look at the pattern

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/chevs_n_holdens/lollies.jpg
o0o0o, berry tree pattern!! it's better when it says stuff, thats amazing, some of them say "i love you" or "happy birthday", how cool is that?!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/chevs_n_holdens/JARS.jpg
then they go on the shelf and get sold to us! with every flavour you can think of, including chocolate filled ones and all, yummmm.

who wants a lollie? :D

photobucket was down for a bit so I finally get to see your images today. So happy cause I love watching stuff like that get made (I saw it once on Discovery HD Theater or some channel like that except they did one with words.) I like the series and I'm also surprised they let you photograph that.

Very interesting. You don't think of how things are made normally.. and I wouldn't have worked it out if I had have tried!

This is so funny! I was just in there, and I wanted to see how they made the lollies but I had to get back to work. So I did a search on how to make lollies and this forum came up. Out of all the lollie shops in the world; you talked about the one I was just in AND I had one of thier lollies in mouth at the time (still is.. Blackcurrent lolliepop... yum)

saw a shop like that in cairns, japanese people there were watching and going crazy XD

makes me wonder why one would want to eat candy though, seeing what goes into it.
