If anyone is interested, I posted some early efforts (pictures) from a walk today in Old Saybrook, CT. That is where he Connecticut River flows into Long Island Sound.

Try 1600 and some ambient shooting. You will be amazed by the low filmlike noise I cannot say enough about 1600 :) A big fan of 1600 heh. I took a bunch of portraits and handheld 1/10th( IS lens) at 1600 and they come out great.

Thanks to each of you for your comments. It is a great camera. I will try ISO 1600.
I used two lenses. The Canon 24-85 f3.5/4.5 and the Canon 100-300mm f5.6 (non-L).
The 24-85 was used for all pictures in the 10D Saybrook Album except for the portrait of the bird (100-300 at 300); the bird in flight with its wings down (100-300 at 100) and the two birds in flight (100-300 at 100).
