I was having this discussion with a friend about major Camera brands and he asked, if Canon was a U.S. company. Even though they have corporate offices all over the world, I wasn't sure. So, what is the answer? Is Canon U.S. owned?

If I had to guess, I would say that Canon USA is a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon Inc., which is purely Japanese.

If you look on the back cover of any Canon camera manual, it lists the main addresses of the various international subsidiaries, and they all report back to Tokyo.

Darn.
I always that their world headquarters were in a strip mall in Milpitas. Imagine my disappointment.

psst, Tom - I think you've been out in the desert too long - go inside, sit down, and get a tall glass of cold lemonade. . .

If you also want to know about the difference between the 'US made' and the 'imported' Canon lenses that B+H are selling ... there's some forum threads to that question:lol:

Best regards,
Andy

I didn't know any Canon lenses were made in the USA.

I don't think there are any.

The confusion probably arises from the fact that dealers like B&H sell both U.S. and Grey Market lenses. The only difference is the warranty. I wouldn't be surprised if they're all made in the same places, none of which are in the U.S.
