Greets,

I have a Canon PowerShot A40. I also have an HP Photosmart 230. Individually, I pleased with the results of both. However, I'm a little ignorant when it comes to color matching from the camera, to the monitor on my computer, then to the printer.

Could somebody explain the basic steps of getting WYSIWYG when I print photos? What exactly does an ICC profile do? Where and how is it applied? I don't really care about the micro-details but would like a condensed explanation. I understand how a profile is applied to my monitor through the display properties but how exactly is a profile applied to a printer?

Anyway, I would prefer to be able to do it without getting into expensive pantone color matching software etc.

Thanks,
Brian
