Nice shot. I might crop most of the top off. ;)

Thanks. I have a number of shots of that bike - some fill the frame. The background at Infineon (like many tracks) is pretty ugly. By framing part of the tree line I was trying to give it a more "natural" feel rather than all concrete. So I suppose I was going for more of an emotional photo than technical. A lot of the motorsports pics I see are the vehicle without regard for where it is - very news like, which is fine but to me they can be claustrophobic.

Nice shots :)
I'm obviously newbie here, so much to gain inspiration from! I see you took those shots with 100-400 L, I wondered how you find the lens? Do you have any problems with 'soft' images, particularly at the 400 end?

Well obviously those images are size reduced for display here. so it may be hard to get a good idea of the sharpness. Also there is a 1.4x extender used with these. I think these are pretty good idea of sharpness. The bottom photo (rider #394)is a panning shot with the bike moving at 80+ mph.
Here is an image full frame and at 100% crop.
