not necessarily the pro's, but who are the big dogs or badasses or gurus of this community? I linger too much around the sports forum, so it's seriously all i have a grasp of.

Im asking this here because I want to know from the pro posters who has the most respect around here.

You can go to the Members List and sort on the number of posts to see who posts more often. Most of these people in the top fifty are who I would consider to be the 'Big Dogs'. That's not to say that other members with only a couple hundred posts are not gurus also. But I think as you read through the posts, you will begin to see who is knowledgeable and helpful.

Some members have general knowledge and others are extremely well-informed in specific areas. For example, Scott Berger is one of the 'go-to' guys for answers to flash photography questions and Scottes is very helpful with post processing. It's hard to answer your question because there are so many topics and areas of expertise.

Two things you can take to the bank... First, if someone posts bad information, they will be corrected in short order. Second, this site is a remarkable photography resource.

Most of these people in the top fifty are who I would consider to be the 'Big Dogs'.Coincidently, the top 50 all happen to have around 2,000 posts or more, so if you see "Cream of the Crop" or "Gold Member" under their name, then they're in a pretty elite group. And most of them have some combination of knowledge, experience and talent which make their contributions enlightening and informative.

LOL Curtis I couldn't help but laugh when I saw your avatar. On most Friday nights I see and talk with Jeff George at the local hs football games I cover. He and the head coach are lifelong friends and he comes to the games and stands on the sidelines. He still wears his Illini hat which is what I thought of when I saw your avatar.

Don't use post counts as a judge of knowledge. There are relatively new members who are very worth paying attention to and some high-count ones who are not.

I agree w/ KennyG, post don't mean much. It just mean they spend alot of time on the forum, like me. sad part of it all I do this in front of the Boss.

Absolutely don't go by post count - some of us just spend more time posting than others.

Not me, of course - I am the doggiest of big, old dogs.... :)

Is there any particular reason I shouldn't take this personally?

I definetely dont take amount of posts into account. Its easy to figure out after awhile who is blowing smoke and who you need to sit up and pay attention to.

With your 1,340 posts I should be asking you? LOL An answer to your question is not easy. I've learned alot on this forum, and it has been from dozen's of people's critiques and solutions. I usually "test" what ever I might be seeking an answer for, and am thankful for the "shortcut's" in my learning curve.
