Hey Guys - I had my 20D just a few weeks ago, I am using a BG with it, my main concern is does anyone of you notice that if you use a BG and if you take out both batteries and replace them and power it up, it resets the date and time, but if you do it one at a time leaving a battery in the grip, it keeps the date, now I did try taking off the grip and putting the BP511 in its standard place and removed it and upon replacing it, everything was normal, the CMOS battery seemed to work.
I just noticed that if you used the battery grip, the CMOS does not function.
Has anyone every tried or had this experience?
Thanks

Check that you have the back-up battery in correctly, and that it's not run down. The grip shouldn't cause that any more than using the BP-511 in-camera does.

Sounds strange ... more like if the small backup battery was not working.
When I take my BP511 out of my 20D, the date & time are kept.
Best regards,
Andy

It says that first you need to remove the batteries in the BG before detaching the BG itself. And the opposite, attach the BG w/o the batteries then insert the batteries.

That's supposed to mitigate the false "low battery" setting - shouldn't affect the CMOS settings. Besides, he's not even removing the grip - just changing batteries, by what he said.

Ronosmena - Like other members said plus you can try several things for your TIME & DATE problem
after cleaning the old batterie and CONTROLLED THE POLARITY:
1) Be shure that the new CR 2206 is NEW and not one that is laying around for years.
2) Before you insert the battery in the holder be shure that it's placed in the right way. POLARITY has to be correct.
3) Before you insert the battery in the holder wipe it clean with a cloth. Both the surfaces
and the outer ring of the battery, because it's on the outer ring that it makes contact
at one side. Don't touch the battery contacts with your fingers after cleaning.
4) Take a little plastic screwdriver, or something like that, (NO METAL TOOLS) and wrap
a cloth on it and clean the in camera contacts before reinserting the battery with the battery holder.
5) Control the pressure from the batterie contacts and if they touch the batterie.
Like others allready said the BG does not affect the TIME & DATE settings on the camera and that's my opinion to.
Good luck and keep us informed if this has helpt you.

Can you please elaborate on this please, I'm using a battery grip also and no matter how long I leave the batteries on charge I still get a low battery level indication when they are re-inserted. My 20D and grip are only 3 months old as are the batteries, is this a known problem:rolleyes:

Mick - This is a known problem on the BG grip for the 20D. Do a search here and you will find many threats on this issue.
Contact your dealer because there is a special repair or exchange policy for these faulty grips. Good luck.

Thank's for that Salleke, I found a number of posts on the subject and found the solution on the Canon Americas site. I tried to find out about it on the UK site, what a load of rubbish that site is; the newest product it has on seems to be the 10D.

Thanks for the help with the battery grip, I took the old one back to Jessops and they swapped it for one out side the faulty serial number range with out question. Popped it on the camera when I got home and viola; full batteries again, Yippee!
