View Full Version : CNC-Storm on the North Atlantic

Hey folks!

I just returned from a little trip on one of our destroyers, and whilst at sea in the North Atlantic we ran into some choppy weather. Not too bad - about 5-6m seas - but after a couple hours I was able to grab a couple of shots of the bow smashing into the crest of some waves with which I was happy. I am not sure which is the "best" and need some help. It was raining for a while and the wind kept driving mist onto the bridge windows so I was never able to get a 'clean' shot without any water on the window in front of me. I am also not convinced the composition is the best; however, for obvious reasons I was not able to go onto the upper decks. :)

I appreciate any and all feedback since I may be able to try this again sometime.

Thanks for looking!!

#4 is awesome. I prefer the context in that one.

#4 is by far the best for telling a story.

Awesome series, both dramatic and unique enough for any minor defects to be overlooked.

Thanks for all the comments. So a smaller wave with the context of horizon has more impact than a large wave that fills the view? Well...in that case my million dollar shot was ruined by too much rain & spray on the glass and the top of the wave being cut off. It could have been a beauty. I don't mind telling you that thephotography conditions were a bit difficult!

Here is another like 4. I think it may be better?

2 and 4 are my favourites, 4 is the best "story", but I find 2 the most interesting (but damn that water droplet in the middle of the frame :) )

This is why I'm glad I was on an aircraft carrier. :D I still think #4 is best because it shows more of the stormy ocean your ship was battleing.

WOW! #4 and the last one with a hint of blue sky showing.
Any of the shots that include the horizon give the best sense of scale.
If you get a chance for more of these, maybe try for a little less gun turret in the foreground.
You definitly captured the feeling of being there!!

+1 for 4. Being able to see the ocean state puts the image into context as mention above already.
