A friend told me it was really hard to take a good picture of a tree like this, so I had to take a try..
Adjusted the saturation and white balance in PS... Since I'm really trying to improve my photography, everything is encouraged. Thanks.
Here's the picture, rather large....

One other, basically the same, except the focus was higher up...

Justin,
You've got the lighting pretty good but I'm not sure what "image" you were trying to capture. If you want the viewer to see the whole trunk and leaves in total focus then you've likely got to increase your F stop value to 18 or higher! Your first shot doesn't do a thing for me as the area in focus is too narrow. Your second shot is must closer to achieving that effect.
Keep up the efforts and you'll get what you want!

Your point of focus should be near the top of the tree, not right infront of the camera.

If I try hard I can see 2 eyes, a nose & mouth, 2 arms... just in time for Halloween! Otherwise, it's a shot of a tree. ;)

All-right.. I didn't want the whole thing in focus... I agree that the first shot doesn't look that good.. It wasn't even my idea to do it.. You ever with a very arty type photographer (even you? :) ) who sees things in photography you just don't? :)
Your point of focus should be near the top of the tree, not right infront of the camera.
Check the second picture.

Certainly reasonable...:)
Thanks all.
