Can anyone tell me what is causing this?

I'm using a G6 with a 420ex with an Omni bounce on the flash. The flash is pointed striaght at the subjects, not in the 45degree bounce position.

from what I've read, it is dust particles...

on the lense I assume..

I took some more after that with no spots, I thought it might have been the flash and difusser.

I do see the flash reflected off the TV screen, but I'm not sure that would have reflected strong enough to cause this, but then again.

If all your flash pics have the same problem spot, it looks like flare or a dirty lens. Also, as gardenstate says, it is common for compacts to record excessive amounts of dust in the environment that are close to the lens, due to the inherent nature of the great DOF involved.

Definitely the flash is getting reflected from maybe more than one spot and is causing the lens flare.

I had the same puzzling problem once with reflections coming back from a window through a curtain that was covering it even though the curtain was opaque to normal vision.

Yup, I think it's lens flare too, because of the hexagonal shape. Try using a different angle, or shade your lens from light sources.

Also I forgot to mention in a few other photos it is in the exact same spot on the pictures.

To me it looks like lens flare, the flash may have caught something relective because it looks like a hexigon shape as in the shape of the iris that opens and closes in the lens. Does it only happen when you use the flash in the same room and do you get it when using the camera outside for general use......??

Actually, I think what happened is the room had an overhead fluorescent light which was on, that coupled with the omnibounce pointed striaght ahead, I figure some light must have hit the front of the lens.
I took pics in another room that day and the overhead light was not on and no spots.

....great, i hope i was right in a way then, it's just that it would be difficult to get dust inside the compact side of it??
