Event Access?

I had the opportunity to attend the Amex World Championship of Golf at Harding Park in San Francisco this week and wondered the difficulty in obtaining an all access photograhy pass for these types of events. I mean, what a glorious backdrop for some outstanding photo opportunities.

Is one required to work for a major publication to obtain this type of access or is their a typical application process that presents an equal opportunity for photographers?

for an event like that, you most likely need to work for a major publication AND get permission from the event organizers based on your media credentials.

Yes, in the larger events of most sports the event organizer researches the media credentials before issuing a pass. They worry about liability of the reporters & photographers also control the numbers of people they let in. Many factors of space available, are you a positive for them and other stuff.
I work for a local sports Mag here and we have bee denied due to late request, no more space for media and we was not told directly but some events wants to control what goes out to the press.
