OK...share a picture, share a thought, share your new gear or even your classics...seek advice or feel free to offer some...not a competition...not a test...you don't need an L....but don't be a pest....check your attitude and ego at the door!:p If your here for fun...come on in....if you're here to stir up trouble, go darken another door. Can't get much simpler than that.;)

Interesting thing.....

I updated my Firefox to v 4.0 a while back. I finally got around to downloading a new EXIF viewer, and tested it on the photo I posted above. It tells me it was taken with a 40D. I don't even remember owning one of those, although I guess I did.

I seem to remember owning it. I'm thinking I traded it in on my 7D. Going to Lightroom, it tells me I have 936 photos taken with the 40D. Many of those are duplicates (because of my lack of understanding on how to use Lightroom), so the reasonable conclusion is: I didn't use it much.

I have plenty of photos with the 40D, well since, I haven't used another camera :D:D It has worked out nicely for me, so far, at least!

Yellow dot is the house. Faces the railroad. Whistle sign is directly in front of us, so is the switch for the siding. The siding starts/ends here so there frequently is a train sitting on the siding waiting for one on the mainline to go by. There is also another ancient siding that runs alongside the mill. Date stamps on the rails are 1907.

My wife's grandmother lived right across the street from the Delaware Lackawanna mainline in Scranton, PA. It was on a long grade coming out of Scranton, and you could hear the trains coming from quite a distance. They were usually pulling loaded coal trains, and they only moved at a walking speed even though they made a terrific ruckus. About 1/2 mile (5 minutes or so) before a train got to her house, it had to pass through the Nay Aug Tunnel, and that seemed to amplify/focus the sound in such a way that I would always get lots of notice that a train was coming. We visited her nearly every weekend for about 7 years, and I didn't take a single photo.

Nay, I LOVED the train picture.

Unfortunately, I had to leave long enough to do some actual [shudder] work.

I'm back now. Of course I am exhausted from my two hours of [shudder] work, but I expect I shall survive.

That was my excuse....I went out and hacked and whacked the kudzu and the berry brambles.

2011 marks the 100th Anniversary of Naval Aviation so many of the squadrons have painted a plane is special markings for occasion. They held the kick off of "CoNA" at NAS North Island in San Diego back in February (http://crosswindimages.com/p830579044) which is where I spent my 50th Anniversary weekend! Many of the squadrons chose to use markings from WWII...

Unfortunately, I'm not exactly sure why VFA-204 chose the nearly black paint scheme with the red trim and white "X" on the tail.

The "Red Star" paint scheme is similar to units that usually are tasked with simulating Soviet Bloc tactics in training scenarios and are commonly known as "Aggressor Squadrons." I'm told that VFA-204 has decided to give all their birds this paint job for the time being. Again, no solid reason why though... :(

I wonder if the owl sees a black owl and/or the cat sees a flying cat?

That's an old shot too. I love it when I'm coming home at night and the crossing lights go on. Can see them from so far away (it's very flat right here) and I always want to take pictures of them. Sometime I'm gonna stake out the crossing and catch them on the down swing. A freight goes by at 1am so it would be nice and dark and little chance of traffic, not that there's much traffic out here anyways. I also want to get a shot of the signal lights with a train headlight in the distance.

This is a favourite of mine. We had a massive snowstorm here this past winter. Started Sunday afternoon and we weren't able to get anywhere until late Wednesday afternoon. Hundreds of people stranded on the highway, the whole county was shut down - the cops literally closed all roads leading out of the city so no one could drive into the storm. Drifting snow played havoc on the railroad. 4 track crews were sent out here because the switch was jammed. All 4 of them buried their trucks in the ditch before they got here. A freight came up on the siding and had to stop because the switch was jammed. Well after dark the poor train guys had to dig out the switch in the middle of the blizzard because it was stuck halfway. The heaters had not yet been installed for the winter. Once they got it freed and set it was just left that way for days until a crew could get out, so every train going both directions had to go onto the siding. And every train had to crawl up to the switch first. I went out to see the neighbourhood in a lull in the storm. Our road was waist deep in snowdrifts. I heard a train coming and waited for it with the camera. Snagged this shot of it as it hit a snowdrift.
