I think my camera has suffered from the loose screw/jammed lens syndrome. I powered it up this afternoon and the lens won't extend. I can hear something shaking around inside.

It's pretty discouraging when I realize the camera is just two years old and probably not repairable due to high costs. Any suggestions? I can certainly look into to having it repaired but suspect the cost to be too much.

I had been thinking about the Rebel for a while but have ALL the accessories for the G3. I guess I can look for a used one, it's been a great camera and I have tons of excellent photos from it. I am not keen on spending the money to buy a G5/G6. Not sure if my extra lenses will fit these newer cameras. I'm sure the Speedlite 420EX would be fine.

Thanks for any ideas.

I'd get an estimate done, anyway, since you have all those accessories. That's the down side of having a cam with a bunch of extras; if my G6 dies, suddenly, I'd either have to get another one or sell off my accessories for next to nothing.

Thanks. I'll try to contact them today and see what the price of admission is.

I may wait and try to get a G3 off eBay. I have a small Oly I can use for backup.

Those accessories are still selling for good money on eBay (in the UK at least). I wish they were cheaper - I've been meaning to get a wide-angle lens for donkeys...

:o Just spoke with Canon. They need $175+ to get started. I don't know if "goodwill" is ever extended since this seems to be a common problem. What are the chances it would be covered without banging me a couple hundred??

I was planning on using this camera for years to come - - I don't really consider a $500+ camera to be a disposable commodity.

Plan B:

upgrade to regfurb'ed G6 for $299. That camera will carry a full 6 month warranty and they say it will be in like-new condition and fully functional with all OE access. included.

It's my understanding all my extras are compatible with the G6. Maybe this is the best course of action.

Thanks.
