Hello,
I've been trying to get my G2 to work with my good old
Vivitar 283 and my Novatron VR600 Studio System.
The camera doesn't seem to want to trigger these systems. Do any of you have any suggestions.
After owning several F-1's and A2e's, I find it hard to believe that Canon would produce a camera that doesn't work with other Professional systems!
Thanks,
MGK

Before using other flashes, you might want to check about hot shoe voltages. Canon specifies

I can't view the url posted since it is apparently not compatible with Communicator 4.x. I'm sure it's all great info.
I know that there are hot shoe adapters that have surge suppresion, I saw one for around $35 from, I think, Minolta.
However, I use a plain 'ol Kalt shoe to PC adapter on my G1 all the time with no trouble at all (photogenic monolights and excalibur monolights). I do plan on getting the supression adapter though, seems like sensible insurance.
I had been using a spare Nikon SB-23 in manual mode for a shoe mounted flash, but recently switched to a Sunpak 383 with a Lumiquest 80:20 which is magnificent.
On the G1, anything mounted on the hot shoe automatically disables the internal flash. If the G2 has to be manually switched to external, that could be a problem (I'm speculating here). There's no reason why the G2 shouldn't fire your strobes.
