Hi all
Can you tell me do you normally shoot the dinner after the wedding? The bride and groom are getting married at 12, and then going to a hotel for the formal sit down meal.

The cake cutting and first dance will be done later at the wedding reception for the other guests to see, but i dont know if its normal to shoot the sit down meal? i dont see many pictures of this part of a wedding.

Any info appreciated

I sometimes use the dinner as a catch-up time for other details like the cake, rings, other things I was not able to shoot before because they were not finished being set up.

I'm chowing down during dinner, not shooting pics of everyone else chowing down. ;)

After I eat, I shoot people mingling. Nobody wants pics of themselves with their jaw open grinding on beef, but laughing and smiling with each other is good.

Yup. I can't think of a single person who looks good eating. And I don't know many people who like pictures taken of themselves while they eat. I use this time to eat myself. Whether I eat in the main reception hall or out of the way in another room is up to the bride and groom. If I'm in the reception hall I may pop up to take a picture of something that's happening, but otherwise use this time as a break.

I usually scarf down my food and then go grab the rings and other items for detail shots.

Normally I don't shoot people eating, but I have sometimes shot photos of the food, especially if it's not "chicken". :)

I will sometimes get an ultrawide angle of the room while people eat to catch the atmosphere of the dinner, but individual pictures? Not really. Just luike bobby said, its a good idea to keep a camera ready in case something exciting happens, though.

I normally eat myself, do detail shots, then go around to each table and ask if once everyone has finished their bite, if they would not mind a group photo of everyone together sitting at the table

Yup, I eat when everyone else is eating.
