Just wondering what the going rate is for shooting assignments. I have an opportunity to shoot for a local magazine and they may need me to go on assignment. They asked what I charge and I'm not really sure what I should respond with. Nothing I've done before...

Years ago I used to get $2800.00 for the day...and then for processing...today I get $3000.00 which is not as high as it should be but I enjoy the digital process too much.....sooo
for starting out....try to get about $125.00-$250.00 per hour...remember, you can always negotiate for a lower price to get the job...but you'll never do that to raise the price......with every client, you set precedence for future work....if a client says to you..."alittle too high or over budget"...just reply, "well, by how much is it too high?"...that alone will start the money talks.......good luck...don

Streetshooter, you must be talking about commercial rates. Editorial assignment rates typically range from $300-600 per day. A small regional publication may pay only $150-300 for an assignment, depending on the time & complexity.
I highly recommend the book "pricing photography."
